this is one post on the subject (More of a Looking into the past though). the orginal uproars are hard to find as old WoW forums arent saved anywhere though.
there defintly was uproar during the lead up when MoP Was announced, it did have a large bleed at its launch, however the expansion was a overall success really as gameplay wise it offered ALOT.
Do you really want gear, level boosts, pets, gold, faction change, race change, auction house unlocks, inventory space etc in the shop

Its going to be better than Legion but worse than MoP. So better than we have had in years. They are letting people play their own way and finally after 8 years finally grasped that Class overhaul after each expansion is top priority.
If all of them were very bad expansions, then in Wrath or Cata they could put the game as F2P instead of always P2W
But I don´t wanna battle pets, faction change or the race change
Pay to win forever always makes sense if they can make the good game and a good expansion
because very bad ones make no sense. It should be F2P because it makes sense

Every expansion in my eyes had something good going on and every expansion had something bad going on.

I had a lot of fun with hearthstone and when the DH is put into the Hearthstone, I enjoyed so much even when I reached 500 wins

No. DF will be Legion 2.0 in a good way with unpruning and with no too annoying systems and tied player powers. Will be at the same line with MoP and Legion, if everything is kept in focus and tuning happends more often.
I assure you it felt terrible for me. Classes were boring and one dimensional in legion.

I don´t play hearthstone anymore, but I recall when I enjoyed from the tactic cards with Demon hunter
Although, Druid Dragons deck was very fun

Being F2P changes nothingâŚ
I loved bfa, the dungeons, the corruption the raids the hubs and cities and the aesthetics it even had story.
Shadlowlands however was trash.
Suramar > BFA and SL content combined.
Not to mention how many things Legion brought to the game, which we still use as main content, also new engine. BFA was just 7.5 patch of Legion, i donât want to remember anything about SL.
I take SL as WoD, they didnât finish the expansion, didnât even bother bringing x.3 patch, they just gave us fated raids etc. They had an excuse, âcoronaâ.

Might aswell just be a patch introducing Talents, Dragonriding and a new (ZM)(Korthia) map.
Free to play would probably kill the game for me. Store micro transactions would go through the roof. Even getting new bags, new character slots etc. You would have to buy from the store. Go check any other f2p mmo and come back and tell me it would be good for the game. The game as a whole is cheaper now than it would ever be if it went free to play.
What makes you think going f2p will improve the game? If you donât like something donât play it. So if the game was f2p, would you play it even if you didnât enjoy it? Because believe me the quality of f2p will be even worse than the current state.

Legion was only really playable towards the end when they fixed all the problems with the artifact system but at that point the expansion was already over. If they didnât have AK or AP, I would have liked Legion a lot more but I played FFXIV more than Legion as a result of the artifact system.
Imagine not liking the spec you picked your first artifact weapon for and youâve already put a lot of time into grinding it up or just wanting to try another spec. Then you pick up a new one and⌠You have to regrind the AP for your new weapon. Then you grow bored of that class and think âMaybe I should try a new class?â and so you level a new class and discover that you have to redo the whole artifact knowledge stuff and then do the AP grind again. Thatâs when I started playing FFXIV more. Legion is the worst state the game has ever been in.
