If you got SL as a gift, the giver can refund it!

Ouch that’s a bit mean

This is dumb. The buyer shouldn’t be able to get a refund if SL was gifted to someone else. That’s the literal definition of gift - transferring ownership.

Not much of a gift if they take it back.

That’s probably regulated .Blizzard has to dance how lawmakers play.

I imagine Blizzard have no choice in the matter but it’s still a bit meh if you are on the receiving end of an unwanted refund.

Probably something to do with EU refund policies. At most they’ll change the wording from gift to loan.

That makes absolutely 0 sense, the ‘‘gifter’’ should have no right to refund a product he effectively doesn’t own.

If Blizzard had made it impossible to refund a gifted SL some people would be complaining that it is a scam to force the recipient to keep a game he no longer wants …

As regards the unpleasant situation where the relationship between the recipient and the gifter has soured so much in a short number of months that the gifted would actually use the refund against the wish of the recipient, the best reaction is probably just to shrug it off and buy back the game with your own money.

I think the recipient should be able to refund the product that was gifted to them themselves.

That’s just stupid…

Just another day that ends with a Y in the world of late stage capitalism!

I want my Christmas presents back from my ex from 10 years ago. Going to use this as an argument in my favour.

Oh god…

I had Shadowlands gifted to me by my friend but he has since refunded

This broke my heart. IMO, if you gift someone something, then all rights you had to that item should be revoked and given to the giftee.

I must admit, I did laugh at the story at first but only because of the absurdity that someone would effectively take back a gift like that.

However given how people are getting less and less trusting of blizzard because of the mixture of systems which people want less of and lengthy development times (with Covid also being part of the reason for this one) I can fully understand why some players don’t want to put their money into this game anymore.

That’s definitely their right to do so, However, if you gift someone Shadowlands then it’s no longer your concern. You don’t own that product anymore because you gave it to someone else.

I agree which is why I said it is absurd to take a gift back like that.

If people feel so strongly about something they will do everything to remove support for that business/game, its just unfortunate in this case that the person gifted the expansion was affected by the act of the game being refunded.

That’s the case in Germany for instance. A gift is no longer yours once you have gifted it. Ofc it has to be proven to be a gift (which would apply here)

I think they’re mostly doing this to ruin the business of selling stuff to players indirectly by a middle man. That’s gonna be a massive hit to a lot of people who live in countries with significant currency issues, No direct blizzard shop due to lack of paypal/credit, etc.

I honestly don’t know what they get from this change.
