I’m a 24 year old woman. I started playing world of warcraft when I was 6-7 years old, but I was just running around, levelling and having fun for years. I still do that, but now I want to be better. Just so I can do casual dungeons with other people, nothing more. I’ve tried to learn about the classes, specifically hunters, but there’s so much I still don’t understand. I got kicked out several times when attending to dungeons, it kinda makes me sad, because I feel so bad at it (and I am) but I almost feel like there is no place for me in this game, because people get so mad at me.
What advice would you give a player, who wants to be better at wow? Do someone knows a guild that takes absolute newbies in?
If you want to get better it’s simply a matter of actively trying to learn by using the resources available, streams, youtube, wowhead icyveins etc and then putting your nose to the grindstone.
I seriously doubt you’ll find any guild to seriously grow as a player in that simply caters to complete newbies.
If you want to be better, read up on your class/spec, read up on general strategy for the content you want to do, like raid guides, M+ routes and affix strategies, for PvP it could be stuff like how to rotate cooldowns properly and positioning. And then all that’s left is just grinding it out.
Damn that’s awesome you’re getting back into it now.
I’m on horde side but if you want you can add me and I’ll do what I can cheers!
If you were a Horde I’d help you out at least with basics
I would advise you to visit your class discord first, and check their FAQ and newbie resources.
Since we can’t send messages here on the forum so I can’t share a link, you should google hunter discord / trueshoot lodge and review their resources, as it will help you a lot with gearing, covenants/legendaries, rotation etc.
Good luck!
First of all Hello Chailattee, always a good choice to ask for help.
You could look at the internet for guides like icyveins for example maybe you will pick up a thing or 2 you can change in your rotation or a different talent that may help you do a bit more dps in general.
But if you are really casual it should not matter since most gear is easy to get and gear is these days also were your power comes from.
As for the kicking part their are lots of reasons people kick each other they can be for rudeness towards others but also because they taught you were bad for some stupid reason…And this is easier said then done but do not think about that to much cause most of the times it are stupid reasons you get kicked.
Anyways I wish you the best of luck getting better and hopefully my tips helped you a bit.
I would just advice to keep at it, read guides about your class. But most importantly: find a guild or community that are relaxed and teach people how to play. I have no idea about the names of these communities but I’m sure someone on the forum can point you in the right way.
As to the kicking, that can happen to anyone. There’s folk out there that can’t stand any lesser performance. It wouldn’t hurt to tell you are new at the beginning, most will act a bit nicer when you do.
If you truly want to be better, just read a guide. Thats the fastest and easiest way to be better.
Thank you for your reply, it sure helps me not giving up. . I think I will try to pick up a few new things to begin with as you say. Everything seems so complicated, because there is so much info out there, and it’s hard to know where to start.
You should also check guides and youtube videos explaining your class’ rotation, how to perform in pvp or pve, understand your stat priority and your role in specific scenarios involving dungeons, raiding and PvPing.
thank you! what server are you at?
I’m new to the game too and what helped me a lot is using addons (weak auras, deadly boss mode for pve etc) and reading guides. The base user interface is so bad that you hardly realise what’s going on as a new player.
Watch up guides on wowhead, youtube, icyveins etc on how boss mechanics work in each dungeon and use addons which help you to realise when a mechanic is happening.
Maybe a weird question but what is that and where can I find it?

You can start with this I guess (based on your current spec, if you want to play a different spec that site has guides for those too)
Op, I would look at joining a community such as; under the communities part of this website, they are a lovely bunch of folks and it might be just what you need encouragement with in part.
First of all, welcome back to Azeroth. Will agree with the others that suggested Wowhead, icy veins (although the guides are written by the same people) YouTube, etc.
I have some level 50 alts parked in Shadowlands so will be happy to team up with you if you like. Most of all, have fun!
Edit- Eshaal has got it spot on with Scared of dungeons community- great bunch of people and I’m glad I joined them
A good place to start would be Icy Veins, they have sections for “Easy Mode” which is an intorduction but then they have more detailed sections for when you start to do more complicated stuff.,
Rather than using the Random Dungeon Finder, use the Premade Groups and create ones with titles like “Learner Tank doing X Y Z”,
Look at the Communities threads, these are like Guilds but slightly less formal. There are ones like Fail Train or Scard of Dungeons which are for people who wish to go at a slower pace in a friendlier atmosphere, for many reasons.
Start with Icy Veins for PvE.
Set your character up the “standard way”. Easiest way to get started.
Make sure you use keybindings. Move from from 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 + ’ (or whatever) to Q E F R T G < Z X C V 1 2 3 4 5 and shift modifiers of those so they are easy to reach. Move with W A S D.
Now you’ve got a good start. Your character will control reasonably well and easily and you know how to make an effective character fundamentally.

Also don’t forget your mouse usually has side buttons and a roller button. I use my roller for interrupts.
