played most of vanilla without addons, my first and only addon trough Vanilla and early Burning Crusade was Aggro Meter, Later it Became DMG Meter because it was the same addon in one
I remember a duel with Dr.Dr. Gladiator before OG between expansions (70-80) and Mr. Gladiator failed spectacularly vs an avarage PvP player like me because addons didn’t work, which gave me a lot to think about.
True, I have no problem with different UIs, etc. But today it is closer to cheating (it would be considered cheating in a different game, no doubt, but people are used to it; it got out of hand). Not using some addons creates a huge disadvantage in both PVP and PVE. And it would be cool if there were one server where these disadvantages were removed and everyone was playing with the same chances. I would play there for sure.

Like for real, what addons would change outcome of duel? Cast bars ? U can see enemy casting even without it . One could argue that enemy CDs but in duel u usualy can track it out of head , if u see your enemy used HOJ he for sure aint gona have it another at least 30-40sec, by that time duel should be over .
But i would like to know what addon u think he used that didnt work and made him bad
have no clue to be honest
we did like 2 or 3 duels and he lost all of them by a mile, told me after that his addons are broken and keybinds are not working because of the pre-patch changes
i’m not saying that he was terrible and won his titles only because of addons between, we all are creatures of habit
tldr.- add-ons help a lot and people tend to forget about it because it feels better to think it’s all you
Im not the nooblet that requires addons or a dps meter to perform. I agree with OP, addons are training wheels for nooblets
Yea well if his addons were broken that can mean they either didnt work or maybe messed up his whole game.
Also with keybinds , there is no doubt keybind make u better player and make your life easier, especialy in pvp , if he was used to specific keybinds ( or perhaps a macros) and then all of sudden those didnt work and he had to click them then yes , this will mess everyone…
You are just cant be that good without addons. they are there to make you better, like the addons that high light procs, the dbm addon that shows when the boss will cat their next ability etc.
Without these you just simply cant play well, you cant pay attention to multiple thing without failing in one or two its just a fact.
Yes you can. I’ve been playing this game for two decades without addons.
I can imagine how well you are playing when there are mechanic that is only visible with addons.
Give me an example of one such mechanic and i’ll tell you
Classic or retail? Because in retail there are millions of things you cant see without weakauras and DBM
But in classic for example one out of my mind the warriors overpower ability, if you are in a different stance you can cant see it without an addon popping up.
Or gnomeregan last boss the countdown before the aoe dmg another one.
On retail idk nor do I care, I havent played it the past 2 expansions but last time I did it was totally fine and hardly ever died.
You know when a warrior can overpower if you dodge an attack, thats really smple to see. I dont even have floating combat text either. I can see on my character nameplate when I do dodge. Nor is knowing when you’ll get overpowered that important, its just a melee attack
You’ll have to be a bit more specific on last boss AoE, because there’s multiple, nor do I have a countdown. I avoid everything without any issues, I see bombs spawning without any issues, I see flamethrower without any issues, I see the frost aoe without any issues.
Like I said, I’ve played this game for two whole decades mate. I don’t need training wheels to play the game at a top-tier level, especially not when most of my time is spent PvPing. Hell, back in the day during actual wotlk I could even play without any hotbars and even without a UI, because the game was just that intuitive. Classic isnt hard, you dont need addons to do well. Retail, maybe you do, because its so bloated with dumb spell effects and animations that you actually can’t see whats going on, which is why its trash.
I do playing wow since TBC too, and I still cant imagine you could do M+ and HC or Mythic raiding without addons. Your dps or tax will suffer either way.
And in classic Im sure you would miss plenty overpowers because you just simply cant watch the nameplates all the time. I meant on p2, there is a raid wide damage where you have to prepare if the healers arent that good, you cant use def cd-s when the boss already did the damage. And if you are playing this game for 2 decades Im sorry I cant expect a 30+ years old man to have a reflex to solve these issues.
Its all depends on the lvele you are playing I guess.
I play at the top of levels without going overkill/overboard to where it kills the fun. Objectively speaking PvP is harder than PvE, and 90% of my time playing this game has been pure PvP. My reflexes are on point, a bit diminished from my peak days because I’m not as sweaty, but my gamesense is better than ever, mostly because I don’t rely on addons to carry me through anything. Even now I can tell with perfect accuracy when a paladin’s bubble is going to end, or their freedom, or when a mage will have his counterspell ready again without having an addon to count it down for me. Believe whatever you want, or remain in ignorance. It matters not to me
