Sorry if this is not the place. What would your justification be for a Gilnean participating in Outland and Northrend? Want to make a Worgen Warrior who was there for TBC & Wotlk and returned during Cata where they then became afflicted. Only problem is the isolation of Gilneas.
Well, there is solutions but that would cause some consequences you must take into account.
The wall was only constructed after the Second War. So you would have been or A: a Gilnean from OUTSIDE of the wall after the Second War, Ex: Silverpine, Hillsbrad, or B: an older Gilnean from main city, but that for whatever reason was outside the city. Ex: Like one of the soldiers part of the Token force sent to Lotharâs army.
This fixes TBC and WOTLK, because at that point you are just a Gilnean soldier in the Stormwind army, f.ex.
Either way this probably means you wouldnât really LOVE Greymane and his whole wall shenanigans, as well as anyone that supported it and the main problem is that you wouldnât be returning to get bit in Cata. You would have to be bitten in either a different location, like in Duskwood, or Shadowfang, which could happen, but also would mean you would most likely be a feral in Cata. Or more recently, in like the retaking of city proper, but even that comes with its continuation issues, because your character wouldnât be super pumped to fight under Greymane.
There is also a VERY specific Warcraft III mission, where Crowley sent a so called âGilnean Brigadeâ, in defiance of Greymane, to Kalimdor to help out Jaina, where they guarded a road in Stonetalon against Warsong bros. Donât super quote me on that, because I canât remember what I ate yesterday. But to be honest with you, I would avoid that unless you are really confident in your RP, because its a slippery slope.
Hope that offers some help, apologies I donât have a definite answer for you. Maybe some other folk will. GL tho, and enjoy RP!
For TBC, you would be a Gilnean soldier, unless you were infected from pyrewood as one of the soldiers left outside the wall, or went on an expedition to Northrend and came back infected. For Wrath, you couldâve been as before, or been bitten in Northrend.
But take that into account, you couldâve been infected as a soldier from any other kingdom too, thanks to Pyrewood and Grizzly Hills.
The other problem is that worgens were mindless until about Cataclysm as far as I recall?
It was an alchemistâs potion that gave them their free will back. From the wiki:
It was only recently that worgen were considered anything more than mindless, savage beasts, and even then, many still are to this day. In the hearts of any who have faced their wrath, Gilnean or otherwise, their very name inspires fear. Krennan Aranas managed to concoct a partial treatment for the worgen curse. Upon experimenting on captured Gilnean feral worgen, it allowed them to regain their sanity (giving them control of their minds)
Gilneas shut itself behind the wall but that doesnât mean all Gilneans immediately teleported home.
Pyrewood Village and Ambermill in Silverpine were Gilnean territory before they locked the wall. You could have been a resident of these who then fled south and escaped the Scourge.
The suggestion for the Gilnean brigade that left with Crowley works too.
You also couldâve just been from Gilneas on a trip when the wall was shut and you were locked out. Sucks, but thatâs the way it is.
Plenty of opportunity to be a Gilnean native who took part in stuff before the wall opened up again, and we saw Worgen actively being converted on Fenris Isle in Cata, so itâs not like they were limited to just those who were in Gilneas before the Horde invasion.
All in all, I think it is entirely possible to play a Gilnean that took part in the events of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, but simply being allowed to be let back into the kingdom would sort of diminish the entire plot point of isolation, would it not? You can even roleplay a Gilnean who took part in these events and then became a worgen, but the whole idea of returning to Gilneas is the tricky part.
Personally, I do not think there is a way to have your character be let back into the kingdom after taking part in those events without invalidating the very canon concept that Gilneas was an extremely isolationist nation.
If it were me Iâd have the character âreturnâ as part of the Alliance forces that pushed into the country to evict the Horde, which was basically at the start of Cata anyway. Then they get infected, either voluntarily or accidentally, while there.
It would still be very isolationist; allowing their country(wo)men, who were outside of the Wall when it closed, back in doesnât invalidate that?
It just means that they held no love for non-Gilneans, be they from other Kingdoms or other races, nor would they have wanted them inside their walls/kingdomâŚ
I thinks?
It would not invalidate that, if the in-game lore hadnât reflected it as it being otherwise. There is an entire civil war being fought over this, after Genn Greymane slammed the wall closed and left the people of Silverpine, whom were mostly Gilneans at the time, die to either worgen or the Scourge.
A story involving the fact that they could have simply just come back and be let back in, I personally think that would greatly diminish one of the few pieces of lore we have about Pre-Cataclysm Gilneas.
When the game was declared to be sealed off, it were apparently higher ups only permitted to venture out, trying to handle the Worgen issue. Commoners would be told to stay put, or pay to be smuggled in (as that would most likely be a thing too).
