[ Important? ] Building a better AD

this certainly has come out of thin air…

Not a thread about the PCU btw but I bet you £100 you can’t substantiate that in any sense (especially when posting on a hidden alt) - which makes me wonder what about the PCU has made you nervous enough to make this spin-piece?

Can’t wait for the oops I (and everyone in a super busy hub) accidentally forgot to screenshot that

Do u rly think the PCU would be as big as it is if stuff like that was allowed LOL. As has been stated a million times the PCU has lgbtq people of course, this is absolute cap which

Substantiate your claims

Yeah, accusing people of heinous acts of harassment without offering any evidence is pretty bad too.

Big disagree. Any option that still enables ERP is and will always be a bad one. No mitigation is good enough.

They can. You can literally report through the add-on. They just chose to turn a blind eye either because there are “more important” things in their mind that eat up the time a GM has, or because they still think their temporary suspensions that rarely happen are enough.

Perhaps. It still wouldn’t change anything regarding OOCers but it might help with people getting a bit too upset about IC yelling.

Yes it is.

Can we please just avoid this PCU and anti PCU stuff? There’s been plenty of posts, reddit threads, etc talking about this stuff, and regardless of whatever stance you take on either side this talk and back and forth about pcu stuff isn’t really relevent to the issues being discussed in this thread, it’s only derailing a conversation that we should really just be focusing on solutions to, and not any back and forth rumour flinging, please.
Because it’s just gonna go nowhere and the important conversation gets de-railed.

I totally agree, but I can’t think of a solution that truly stops it entirely in the short term, this was more of a band aid solution till a real fix can be implemented. You’ve made me realise I think it could send a message that its supported or allowed though, so yeah, it should definitely be avoided as a solution.

EDIT: I also didn’t realise it had a built in report feature, thanks!

Anything that we can do ourselves will be a band aid solution. Meaningful action and change can only come from Blizzard themselves.

Of course that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t talk about it and call out abhorrent behavior whenever we encounter it.

It’s not the most intuitive thing I must admit.

While I largely agree with your previous post I think you should take your own advice on this one based on how I’ve seen you act IG. The stuff you’re shaking a finger at now is exactly what you spent the better part of an hour doing - apart from you did it in spatial channels in the middle of Orgrimmar and now on the OOC forums

I don’t think it’s super sincere to flip between acting like the local super reasonable dude and acting in the wittiest guy to ever OOC in /say

A lot of it actually does. With pages like CoAD or some ERPers who shall not be named, who claim how everyone who disagrees with them or is in AD Discord is PCU, we ended up in situation where many people genuinely don´t know anything about PCU except rumors that are often outright false.
And this is not just about stuff like us being hateful, ERPers and many other unsubstantiated claims, but often simple things. Recent example I encountered is person reacting to idea of filling form on a webpage to get into RP guild with “sounds like PCU” despite the fact that PCU is really vocal about keeping things as simple as possible.
We truly are Bill Gates of AD.

Such as public events that are taking place all over Azeroth or massive campaigns open for anyone who shows interest?
All of this is already happening.

Again, regardless of any stance on the topic, I don’t think it’s very helpful to -this- discussion.
I spoke harshly in say chat (in an ooc area, to people flagged ooc, but I can understand if you don’t approve of that) but I afterwards did take a step back and saw getting angry over ‘he said she said’ and rumours was stupid. I understand it would have been upsetting at the time but I can hope you can understand that.
But yes, this isn’t helpful to the discussion, or coming to any real solutions on the topic at hand, and anti-pcu ranting doesn’t help in an actual serious discussion on erp and how we can address it.

I think it is being consistent in your dealings I think is very key to a good community ie. if we’re talking about something I would like to be talking to one version of Subule instead of rolling the dice and seeing if it’s the nicest guy to ever post on the AD forums Subule or literally linking anonymous harassment blogs in /say Subule

I literally pm’d you a response to some accusation you were making (because I try not to talk OOC in spatial channels outside of instances) and you began acting like you had owned me / were the coolest guy ever because I didn’t want to break my own community’s rules to argue with you in Orgrimmar

So yeah lol I didn’t think that was epic bro

It wasn’t upsetting, it was just absolutely cringe to see someone who is ostensibly in an RP guild on an RP server acting like that

I think in general - and on topic - that airing RP realm drama in spatial channels as is pretty prevalent esp. on Alliance is more or less part of the OOC / griefing problem in some sense

Agreed

Yeah, I’ve already agreed it was stupid to get riled up about rumours and hearsay. I hear what you’re saying and agree.
And yes, I agree completely that airing drama in game spatial channels is bad for the community in general, and off putting to new players. It’s something that also should stop, as it just promotes toxicity from all sides, and gets people riled up unnecessarily.
It’s something that hopefully reporting can address properly in the future, with enough demand. That’s the only way I can see a solution to that.

Even outside of the case of minors (which is absolutely disgusting + reprehensible), I’ve found myself leaving places and quitting things because people couldn’t stop trying to push for ERP - and I know I’m not the only one.

Yeah people focusing their RP around ERP and trying to force that on someone else that isn’t interesting is selfish and can just put people off of RPing. No one should go through it, minors or adults.

I wish that aspect was talked about more, too, for sure. Once a space/community becomes really open and accepting of smut and allows itself to be pornified it is really difficult to turn back the clock on it.

We get accused of being prudes but truthfully part of it as well for me is just not wanting yet another online hobby/place to become all about the pursuit of getting off.
Nevermind that it is just so grody to me; this idea of attempting to sexually arouse and tittillate those that are platonic to you.

Alright so additional. Couple days ago my guild are having an evening in Silvermoon. Pretty chilled out. Was fun to RP tourism.
Until a trio of us had someone mount up on a mammoth and jump on us (that old trick) and another spam OOC. It was… 25 minutes at a guess? Not much. Surely someone could flippantly say well… what is 25 minutes. And bless my guildies they did power on through.
But why should we? Why should we endure that? Why is it expected we grit our teeth and put up with it?
This was very recent and in a hub that is not used for many gameplay needs so what reason was there for this pair but to find RPers to boggle at?
It struck me that this was how it got going on the other realms. No hub zone untouched by griefing or harassment; even if small. This is why it is so important that we show this is not welcome or wanted.
What could help is Blizzard showing better respect and care for RPers by reinstating realm rules, and also talking actively about how RP realms are with a particular purpose that is just as worthwhile as Normal realms and actively harming that is unacceptable.
Like when streamers once again harass the realms, when groups thumb their nose at us and set up “OOCers in AD” discords…

Before someone says griefing is a reaction to RPer rudeness, I am unsure how RPing amongst ourselves was of such insult, but perhaps that we are enjoying our weird hobby despite all attempts to ruin it for us was the insult…

I guess I am just repeating what has been said without solution but that we are in end-patch doldrums and still not able to just be left alone says a lot, to me.

That’s quite dedicated, most of the mammothriders I’ve seen are gone in five minutes at best :frowning:

Even that’s five minutes too many :pensive:

I desperately wish the /ignore function actually made the player invisible to you. It would solve a lot of issues like this. Not sure if that is feasible in a coding sense. Would this cause too much traffic, or something?

Either way, it’s always irritating to hear about griefing. Aimless, thoughless and selfish OOCers doing what comes naturally, I suppose.
