I don’t really like this argument! If someone likes being around RPers because it helps them immerse more in the setting of the game, without personally interacting with the roleplayers (or doing anything to hinder their RP) I don’t mind it! It’s like a harmless semi-IC state on a personal level!

I think it’s more people get irritated by being unable to have their first choice and it’s bound to some level 45 that hasn’t been touched in ages by the looks of things.

God knows Aerilen wasn’t my first choice, it came from some name generator when I got frustrated and spat my dummy out the pram. :rage: :triumph:

I’m going to assume that was a joke and move on with my day.

Just do what I do: steal obscure names from ASOIAF that sound convincingly elven.

Name-hoarding without any intention of using them is bad though, yeah.

Melon’melorn is my new OC and I will thank you to not besmirch his juicy goodness.

It’s not great, but I can’t see it as a major issue in comparison to some of the stuff discussed in the thread. It’s a very small-time problem imho.

I used to be a lot more obssessive over my name picks but I don’t really care anymore! I have a ton of word names saved on some account I don’t even want to use! I’d rather use IC names over word names nowadays!

I usually mangle some sindarin to the point that Tolkien would roll in his grave, disgusted with what i’ve done with his hand-crafted labour of love.

I have one but it’s kinda nasty and I don’t know if you guys would agree with me: People should be more often reported for not having a RP-name. You know, something like “Michaeljacksonfan01”.

I see so many people rolling around with really obvious non-RP names and I think it would be a good start to check for these ones and report them. I know, it’s controversial but it is however an official rule.

But this could also end easily in an abuse…

Name purists unite. No accents. Same as your character’s name. Full name.

That’s not the one chief.

I usually report these if I see them but quite often I’ll still see them a week or two later, so I don’t know if it’s just a huge queue or if they get ignored or what.

Problem with this; what constitutes an “RP name”? Imho names that are words that describe the character (a lot of Rotgarde members, for example) aren’t immersion breaking in the slightest. If anything, I prefer that style to having to use accents. Despite this, a lot of people were keen to bully a minor in a thread for having their name as “Rabies”, as a worgen, which I don’t feel is necessarily an ill-fitting name for a worgen character. It seems what people constitute as an acceptable name varies on whether or not they like the person using it tbh.

About the name issue… if I see someone called Rawrxd or Xxroguegodxx I’m gonna report them. If it’s just an odd accent in the name or it just a single word (like Fearless, Patriotic etc) that’s more similar to a nickname or title, I don’t mind.

Somewhere there’s a quote from a GM saying that players create the server they want to see. Meaning the GM’s will only action what players report.

If they have TRP and use that to portray a setting-appropriate name I’m not too bothered – although if their OOC handle is something like “Deeznutz” I’m inclined to report them.

I love the fact AA has a very serious and well-designed profile about a very genuine character, who OOC is legit called “Deezmuttz”.

EDIT: A very nice person OOC, just used an example relevant to Loras’ reply.

As long as he’s a Worgen i’m totally cool with that personally.

That’s not nasty, that’s 100% based and you should be doing that 24/7

Sure, you should apply common sense to that (ie. in theory many perfectly appropriate gnome names break the RP naming policy) but when you see Pepegaqtx rolling through town you know what to do

People should go absolutely crazy with reporting names that purposefully break the one rule Blizzard still kind of sometimes maybe enforces

TRP is fine and dandy until you use the in-game emotes.

/look would produce a nice little ‘Mogi looks at Deezmuttz’

This is the exact reason I never really use OOC names. My characters always need a name that is their first or last, no real exceptions.
