The new UI is okay. The UX is not. The UX is straight from 1990 and it seems to me, no thought was put in it.
My complaints are:
- Pre defined action bars
- Action bars aren’t adjustable enough. You can only adjust the number of buttons and rows. Furthermore, you are limited to an arbitrary range.
- The buttons don’t flow if you resize, making icons hidden.
- You have to drag a bar thingie instead of just having the possibility to shape the form directly by a point you can drag around like e.g. the chat window size.
- You can’t move the hypogyphes.
- Keybindings are still fully button based.
also
- Arena frames don’t track dr’s.
- No sight of the ability tracking feature that was promised.
My suggestion:
- Get rid of predefined action bars.
- Let me drag a spell from the book, item from the inv etc. to the screen and that creates a button.
- I can drag a button close to another one and it just collapses to a action bar.
- Once an action bar of size bigger than 2 is created, we can drag the shape. For n=2, this is basically a rotation (vert/horz), for n>2 we get the usually combination of number of rows/number of columns.
- Make it stick to the grid. (optional ofc)
- Automatically align stuff in the same manner. If you have 3 actions bars and action bar 1is 2mm from action bar 2, then suggest to the user that action bar 3 is also 2mm away from the others.
- A binding is spell/item based by default. You can of course make empty buttons that you can put different things in it.
Thanks.
Edit: There’s some kind of basic snap functionality included. I simply didn’t realize it. So I guess that’s okay.
