Race locking doesn’t add value. It removes value by arbitrarily restricting it’s customization options.
From an rp standpoint it’s nothing more than a DM saying “because”, since that is the only argument for this regressive design decision.

the undead armour , i my self would have made it million times better, their gloves are stupid and it should have plate skulls around with sharp blades, the head is only rogue themed the back should have being a plague stash of Potions , their belt looks the same design as the Orc heritage armor belt xD their shoulders should be right side a skull with plague eyes and plague coming out of the mouth, and left side should be a stash of Daggers with plague on the tip. assassin creed vibes. the Chest should have metal chains around ghost rider theme… come on blizzard you can do better then this. the helm should have being a half mask of leather something like Beta guy from walking dead* and please had beards to undead, trolls and more vrykul options to humans and orcs (Beards) sense you dont put the vrykul race as neutral in game. a dragon expansion without the most important race of the dragons? Vrykuls are the only race in azzeroth that knows how to fight with dragons and how to live with them, specially proto drakes!
now talking about the Troll race darkspear why blizzard dont make them like they did Zuljin in heroes of the storm? he have back strait and buffed in muscles, trolls in warcraft 2 were the same! why they are broken back mountain looks and cracked head body?
Orc race both magar and normal ones still have allot of bugs in terms of using Shoulders and weapons, for almost 20 years they never fix the position of shoulders and weapons in orc races. come on you can do better then that, allot of shoulders mogs dont even touch the orc skin, its like floating around…
in all these years the alliance never had problems between them like the horde had… like 4/5 warchiefs and allot civil wars going on, now is the perfect time to give the alliance side a war between themselves, Andwuin coming back to take hes Throne many humans in the stormwind city dont want him on the throne, now is the perfect time for them make Turalyon go away from stormwind and unite the other human kingdoms to create a new order of the light with the Scarlet crusaders ,the league of Arathor and the rest of the paladins from argent dawn and Anderhol. let Turalyon get all those light order people back together and they cleanse Lordearon from the plague and they get back undercity for the humans as other capitol city. the undeads could get that back living in the underground or along side with the humans above, sense millions of the undead are priests and warriors along side with mages from the scarlet crusade. and now its the perfect time to interduce undead Paladin class in the game! why undead can be warriors / Holy priests and they cannot be a paladin? a paladin is a warrior that uses holy magic to heal and imbue hes weapon to fight! Taurens get their paladin class from nonsense! they one day they look at the sky saw the Sun oh look sun = paladin? blizzard stop making stupid stuff without a sense!
i am not an alliance player, for 20 years i love the horde and my orc warrior! but it would be awsome to see something like this to happen! i just give an idea of a huge patch and lore that blizzard can work with. DONT destroy THE TURALYON LORE he is the most badass guy the alliance have! let him be the King of Lordearon and Rule with arthas sister
The reason why they’re race locked is they would look REALLY bad, or maybe not even work, on other races.
For example, giving a Tauren the Dark Iron Dwarf heritage armour forces the helmet to stretch over a snout, which would break its appearance.
Pandaren have comically large boots or hide the feet entirely, which breaks the Kul Tiran set.
LF Draenei set doesn’t work if you have no hooves.
Mechagnose set should work on other races but the whole thing is sort of predicated on most of the body already being mechanical or it looks very strange.
And so on and so forth.
These sets allow Blizzard to create something that is truly carefully molded around the character that equips it, not worrying about the variety of ways it will break on other races.
EDIT:
Look at this trash lmao. Look at the boots.
totally agree with this guy, vrykuls should have being in the game as neutral allied race from Legion, vrykuls could have being warriors,DK,paladins,Hunters, shamans, druids, mages, priests and warlocks they should have their own style and theme classes like hunters being able to tame dragon family proto drakes going into the same abilitys of Chimeras. warriors having an unique kind of Roars related to dragons. their racials would be cool like (Dragon Borne- your attacks have a 5% chance to make your target burn with fire and increases all damage to it for 2%) (dragon scales- taking damage have a chance to be immune to DoTs for 3 secs) (Dragon Roar- increases your flying and mount speed by 30% while riding a dragon) (Dragons Fury- use ability with 2 minutes CD , make your blood boil like lava burning every one around you based in the damage or healing done for 10%) there you go blizzard some ideas for Vrykuls Allied Race!
Honestly; looks fine to me.
I’m of two minds on this though… On one hand, I would LOVE to be able to equip some of the other races’ heritage pieces on my main. For instance, the goblin heritage hat would look awesome on my gnome.
On the other hand; sure, it does give races a certain something unique. It sets them apart from the other races; in a time where we see more and more things be made ‘universal’ or homogenized.
So… I’m fine with whatever. Both options have their up- and downsides.
The boots are squished and look very strange - the model getting in the way of the ankle rather than supporting it. I imagine it will either clip or distort very badly when walking. The belt reaches all the way to the feet which it’s supposed to reach to the knees, the “teardrop” shape that’s on the chest is completely distorted and looks horrible, the helmet is literally completely gone, and the shoulderpads are clipping into the chest even while standing still.
No, it does not look fine.
Well I agree, which is why I don’t mind having a bit of both.
EDIT: Apparently I can just look at it like this:
The helmet and feathers are gone, the wood over the chest is gone, the boots are completely gone the totem is gone, the gloves are gone, and belt is gone, the trousers look like pants.
It’s very broken.
On most of the armors all that is missing is to have the 3d doodads correctly rigged to the race. Something that’s already being done on most new armors. Only pieces that would need a redesign is the headpiece and probably feet. The base textures themselves should apply fine.
Oh and most head-pieces already come in two version, one for humanoid and one for furries.
Only because it’s not rigged. Not because it can’t work.
Though on that particular outfit there is a bit off an backdoor… (Probably easy to fix)…
Can’t help but notice that human female mesh? or whatever it is does not match the other races at all making certain outfits to say, liberating.
I’ve not liked all the Heritage Armour sets and this is another one I’m not really blown away by.
I will ofc grab it
That’s true, but it’s also a lot of work.
More than normal.
You see, most armour pieces, including tier sets and the like, follow a pattern. Their shoulders are about the same size and scale about the same. Belt buckles take alive the same amount of space. The boots and gloves follow strict requirements, and the chest and legs are usually just textured and if they do have custom models it usually clips or they’re very careful.
The racial armours, by contrast, look very different. They often have features that simply break in other races, and it’s easy enough to say “hey just fix it lol” but when you make something so custom that is not at all trivial.
And honestly I think WoW lacks racial identity A LOT these days. It’s very difficult to identify with races that seem to have no history - or where your history as a player does not seem influenced by that history, which is why I dislike the new tutorial area so much.
So God forbid that the game puts in something for a race. Maybe r we should start complaining about having racial starting zones?
The Forsaken armor looks terrible. It’s an uninspired mishmash lacking any personality, the colours are completely off (that’s not the forsaken purple), and it looks like a clown with all the golden bits and goofy backpack. Inspired by Warcraft 3 Acolytes that are Scourge/Cult of the Damned and not Forsaken.
Can we at least get some recolours that fit with the Darkshore Warfront sets?
I love the WoW team’s current effort! They’re not faffing about; they’re doing and excellent job and creating really cool stuff, at a fast pace!
I’m not locked out of any races starting zone (save for goblin and worgen) or rewards.
That’s more of an writer/design issue on blizzards end. They for some depressing reason have been incapable of putting anyone other than Humans and Orcs in the front (Save for a slight detour with the Night Elves and Forsaken in BFA). Only notable race that’s consistently gotten their own clothing would otherwise be trolls. And those aren’t arbitrarily race-locked.
Personally i low-key wish they had continued with the garrisons, and with each expansion they added a new races architecture.
That’s just not true. In BfA we literally went to go see the Zandalari trolls for instance. That was like… half the expansion.
The issue is that when this happened they did not take the opportunity to make that into some sort of experience for new players. Why is there no part of Zandalar that allows you to level from 1 to 10 as a Zandalari troll? Because they couldn’t be bothered dealing with the notion that our characters have racial backgrounds, that’s why. Better to just deal with it all in one go I guess. BOOOOOORING.
Because we were introduced to their background, twice through BFA. First in the zone stories and then with a small follow-up to unlock them.
Yes, we’re introduced to them as not them.
This is sort of like saying there should be no Mulgore because Camp Taurajo exists.
I’ve played gnome for a large part of my WoW ‘lifetime’. I’m used to squished boots.
For some transmogs it can work to my advantage. And sometimes it looks bad, sure. I notice it a lot whenever I race change; Tah was a dwarf until recently and most boots look awesome on them.
Agree to disagree.
I think that’s an issue with Wowhead’s dressing room. That’s not how it would look ingame.
Only the first few heritage armors can be viewed in-game. And with those you can see the 3d models not being aligned properly. As for the later sets we are straight up blocked from preview them in game. But when we preview them in WoW head they will show up with the base texture and model but without the 3d accessories.
Kul Tiran on panda: (No 3d models)
Lightforged on panda: (Hipguards are a bit low)
Orc: (Too large feet and belt, ring is misaligned)
Well, that should be possible to find out.
/outfit v1 104349,77343,0,105323,104356,0,0,104604,94331,104354,104351,78728,77003,-1,0,0,0
Well, turns out it’s just plain ignored and that’s the end of that.
Yeah it’s basically broken when it works at all.
And it has to be - the whole point is it looks completely unique.
You cannot use “this argument is not an argument because I don’t agree with this decision” as an argument.
My point about RP still stands and yours is non-existent. Imagine a Kul Tiran in Nelf garb… it makes no sense AND it’s ridiculous.
And the same argument could made to say that us wearing most armors from vanilla, tbc, wrath, cataclysm, mop, wod, legion, bfa, shadowlands and now DF. Makes no sense because cultural reasons.
Who’s to stop a bunch of adventurers from loot your wardrobe?
Why is someone that grew up in a certain culture disallowed to wear the cultural because they are the wrong race?
Why is someone exalted with a culture disallowed to wear a general garb by that culture?
The only reason you find it ridiculous is because Blizzard decided to add this arbitrary restriction so you blindly adhere to their “authority”.
