I think it’s time we got to the bottom of this. One overarching theme in BFA seems to be that classes and specs (across the board) are not as fun to play as they once were. This isn’t a view that seems to be held by a small percentage of the playerbase. This seems to be the prevalent view and it’s imperative that people express their thoughts so we can provide a constructive, detailed collection of feedback as to why this is the case.
For the record, I’m firmly in the camp that certain current specs and classes are immensely downgraded from their past iterations.
I’m very interested to know in what expansion you felt your class/spec was fun to play. Furthermore, I’m curious to know precisely why you found it fun. Please be as detailed as possible.
- What did you like about the rotation?
- What did you like about the utility?
- What did you like about the way it performed in PVE and PVP content?
- What did you like about the class fantasy and aesthetics.
Moreover, it would be very helpful if you could provide counterpoints as to why your class in BFA doesn’t feel as fun to you. Again, be as detailed as possible if you can.
Honestly I’ve enjoyed every iteration of fury and arms; except the overbloated nonsense i got in MoP.
Aside from warrior, my go-to alt was always enhancement shaman, which is a spec that I haven’t enjoyed since WoD. WoD might have retuned the spec and made the damage more focused on spells instead of the melee hits, but the play style was still the same as WoTLK, Cata and even MoP.
I haven’t enjoyed Enh since Maelstrom was added as a resource.
Give me some memory pills i’m old and I play 10 classes and around 20 specs .

Legion.
Actually, I can’t think of a single class/spec I didn’t enjoy in Legion. And I had an alt of everything at max. Except Priest.
The only expansion i never complained about my class & Gameplay was in MoP
In fact back in MoP i enjoyed playing Warlock in way i didn’t felt since.

Warrior went up wotlk cata mop and then it wen straight downhill …and its still falling to this very day.
Pandaria for every class I played cause thats where the game play was most fluid while remaining fun and unpredictable.
ARP DW frost (WOTLK - ICC 25 hc raid mode and gear) - was absolutely the craziest time I have had with my frost DK. It had very low damage on its own vs the normal frost dks or unholy dks or other melees, but when it was in PvP vs cloth, or certain cretaures (single target on LK’s valkyrs) was phenomenal. I know most guilds went max cleave on LK HC, but normal frost dk aoe was too low, single target was bad, and UH dk without legendary was a no go. So I was absolute killer on single target damage instead.
This was when I loved frost DK the most. Then they slaughtered dk damage in cataclysm, F-ed up its game play in MoP (really, use 2 spells as frost as using 3 was dps loss?) and draenor … don’t even remember. Legion and BfA brought frost dk back to fun-land, but the breath-mechanic is a bit … like… when RNG hates you and you get spiked by boss mid breath and then you do tank damage - is no fun .
Warlock:
-Classic
-Tbc
-Wotlk
Since Cata the class was sh.t and boring
Loved my Sp in Pandaria

TBC Affliction warlock, dots were strong, healers had to think if it’s worth dispelling UA, Arena was mad fun. Other warlock specs were amazing too.
Rogue TBC-WotLK. Sub was amazing.
Every class just has more tools and higher skill ceiling while feeling totally different from another.
TBC-WotLK rogue combat/ finesse then mandatory switch to assassination.
Various spenders depending on the situation ( dot, direct damage, armor reduction, attack speed).
Many tricks that aren’t doable nowadays such as kitting a war by staying on his dead zone range (can’t attack or charge) then stealthing back to hit hard again.
It was overall more fun and engaging, now fast forward today I gave up rogue and play DH they aren’t better but at least got flashy moves. I just hope next expansion brings a much better class design along with actual new and fun PvE content that isn’t rep/daily/WQ grind or dungeons’n’raids.
On Retail, i was playing Rogue Pre-WOTLK, it was fun but frankly I was a noob so i don’t remember if I enjoyed so much. I remember something on TBC Rogue, i think some guys would miss the TBC Rogue, duelling vs a Mage was beautiful
.
Feral as a main from WOTLK to MoP, then at MoP i switched to Hunter to change my playstyle. I stopped at the end of MoP, and then come back in Legion as Feral. And then at BFA, since i have heard Feral will be horrible due to Beta feedback, i rerolled DH …
For me, Feral was insanely fun in WOTLK. For the first time, i hit 2K6 in arena in 2vs2 with a Priest and this was the best memory I have in PvP. 2vs2 composition was well balanced, with DK/HPal, War/HPal, Mage/Priest, Feral/Priest, War/Druid, DK/Druid, Hunter/Priest, Rogue/Priest, Rogue/Mage, … All of theses composition had pro and cons, and it was a bit “rock - paper - cisor”, but with a bit of skill you can outplay and won. Instant Cyclone was probably the best thing i remember about Feral in PvP, for the first time since the start of WoW, you can Wild Charge in Bear => Bash => Cyclone => Fear with a Priest, and this was really nice to won by a well landed CC chain.
In PvE, same, Feral in WOTLK was just insanely fun with armor penetration and the rotation was for the first time, not easy to do (Mangle + RIP + Rake + Savage Roar + FF, all of that should be maintain on a boss).
I miss my old cat.

i loved gladiator purely cos it tempted me to tank, as I was using the majority of tanking abilities to dps anyway. lock in classic cos of curse of doom … it was always exciting to see what youd hit em for. Beyond that, no class was ever “fun”.
Bfa is more tempting to tank in than any other expansion, and I tank on about 10 alts if needed and its not a problem to do so … I don’t use addons so tanking isn’t easy but if you pay attention then its okay.
Havent really played that many exp, just BC, LK and BFA. I dont feel like its a very big difference in spells, but then again BC and LK is a very long time ago. Biggest difference is totems i think, moving from buff totems to more situational totems.
Probably MoP. I liked the old rune system compared to the one of today and I liked the utility (Anti Magic Zone, Chilblains).
Funny enough, the Frost DK is more engaging and complicated to play now than it was in MoP. While Unholy has always been the more fun spec, I enjoyed the huge crits on my screen when killing machine procced in MoP.

My favourite time to play shadow priest was WoD, when we had 5 shadow orbs, and being in and out of shadowform meant something. As someone that plays mostly open world content, the insanity mechanic always feels like a waste, since enemies die before half of it is drained and the rest is just lost.
Losing fantasy elements, and adding healing to shadow spells for easy gameplay is also something I dislike.
And I also think WoW has lost an unique fantasy with the rewriting of the spec. Before shadow and void were the same, shadow was a corruption of the light, the bending of the light to the priest’s will. Sure, others become masters of their chosen powers, but shadow priest was the only one to transform it completely. And now that fantasy is completely gone from the game.

WotLK for the classes I play (Paladin, Rogue, DK, Warlock).
Especially for Paladin that I play most I liked the toolkit we had back then, the need to actually manage mana and choose the right judgment/seal specially in PvP. And I could go on and on.
I frankly believe that most people who play since Vanilla or TBC generally tend to prefer TBC/WotLK gameplay from next expacs. My guess is the overall feeling was better. Talent trees were a huge loss to say an example. And judging by the sub numbers in WotLK compared to Cataclysm, it’s pretty obvious what people prefered.
