Inconsistency with pets keeping their names

So this is a simple topic I would like to post here as there seems to be no “Bug report” forum besides the Shadowlands Alpha / Beta one.

What is up with the inconsistency with some pets keeping their names after a tame?

Ironeye the Invincible and Rockhide the Immovable are both rare-unique Basilisk pets yet Ironeye keeps the full name + title upon a tame yet Rockhide just gets the default “Basilisk” name.

Hell-Hoot and Ol’Beaky are both named-unique Birds of Prey pets yet Hell-Hoot keeps the full name but Ol’Beaky does not.

Dreadwing and Faultline from the BRF Raid keeps their names upon a tame yet Thok the Bloodthirsty does not? They are both Boss category pets. If we wish to remain with the the realm of similar pet families; then King Krush (Altough not a boss) keeps his name upon a tame as well.

Lo’kuno keeps the name upon a tame but Milden Mud Snout does not? These are both Riverbeasts.

There is also a great deal of open world non-boss, non-elite beasts that keep their names like Bach’lor; a Stag from Nagrand (Outland) yet Pahboo-Ra and Ghamoo-Ra - The two turtles from BFD does not?

Is there some system in place I do not know about which determines why not all pets with a specific name keeps it or is this just something which “Has gone buggy”?

The keeping its original name existed before 9.0 but you could rename your pet now that button is gone and you got to keep your pet with its original name while others you can rename at any point.

I was under the impression that only rare tames retained their names. Didn’t know it also applied to normal named mobs.

Wouldn’t the certificate of ownership, or whatever it is called, solve that tho?

You can’t use spaces when naming pets. Only way it can be done is by taming a rare with said name and keeping it as is. Certificate of Ownership won’t help with that.

I meant the exact opposite… Renaming a pet that retains the original name.

You don’t need Certificate of Ownership for that. Just right-click the pet frame and rename it.

Not always, some pets remain with the original name and won’t let you change. Just happend with me recently when I tamed Bloostalker Alpha, the rename button wasn’t showing up and I had to get a certificate in order to give it the name I wanted.

That had to be a bug no doubt.

Did you read what Vataraa said?

Had to read it a few times before it made any sense given the lack of punctuation. As I said it has to be a bug. No way it’s intended that you cannot rename a rare upon taming.

I did report it as a bug when I saw it happening, but I’m not sure if it is completely a bug, IIRC I think I had to do the same with other hunter last year when taming the exact same pet. I usually avoid taming rares because ironically everybody tames them so they end up being less rare than the common looking pets. As such I don’t have much knowledge on how naming rare pets work, but I always assumed it’s intended for some to keep their names without the option to rename them, if they are tied to lore or something.

In the context of what’s being discussed here - I just started to play as a BM Hunter and was looking for unique/rare pets in Durotar. I found out about this tiny pig (basically a standard boar when you tame it) named Lo’Shall in the Valley of Trials that is tamable, however when you tame it - it doesn’t keep it’s name and just switches to generic ‘boar’.
Any ideas as to why it doesn’t keep it’s name or is it also a bug of some sort?

My english is not bad -.- i know you think so cus i did not use. or ,.
Anyway you dont have the right to point out 1 tiny misstake.
