Infinit download of WoW patch

Hello Support,

For the last 3 weeks i have the issue that the Battle.net app is downloading something for WoW.
It says “Downloading 2.65 MB remaining @ 0b/s”. The to be downloaded part changes. Can go as low as less then 300 kb.
This happens only with WoW, not with other games like Diablo III or Heardstone.

Things i have tried:

  • Delete the .IDX files and then perform a repair. -> does not help
  • Remove and reinstall Battle.net -> does not help
  • Removed all Blizzard games and Battle.net. Reinstalled Battle.net and a fresh WoW. Here too the it downloads about 75GB and gets stuck on the last MB’s. -> does not help
  • Tried the same steps with and other admin account -> does not help
  • Also tried a new install on an other internal drive -> does not help

System info:
Windows 10 Pro version 20H2 fully patched
Bit Defender. There i excluded the wow dir (no effect)

Extra info:
I can play the game. Starting the game is wierd as it takes way longer to start. Sometimes is even happens that wow.exe is started two times. So when i leave i have to kill the second wow.exe.

Any other suggestions?
Reinstalling Windows is not an option at the moment as i also use the system for work and reinstalling everything would take 2 days minimum.
Also don’t have on other PC to try.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Great steps that you’ve worked through, it’s how I would start looking into an issue like this on my own machine.

Given the issue, it could be worth temporarily uninstalling BitDefender and also testing if it occurs under a new administrator account.

Ok, will give that a try.
