Inflation: Prices on the Rise - How and why is a Blizzard defending its next expansions massive price increase? (Dragonflight)

:face_with_monocle: Would be interesting to hear the reasoning from the actual company, as why the price is increased. to buy additional game addition. Why should the players pay more for an addition to the game they have played and supported for years, while the company they followed and cheered is as they have been portrayed by the media and social media, I will not say more, as it might be “reason” or in terms of service to closure/ terminate my account.

It’s pretty simple. Development costs for games have risen a lot over the last 20 years. This was first brought in by Sony, but the fact is that you’ll start to see a lot more company’s bring it in over time.

Burning crusade costed $39.99 when it came out. Dragonflight is $49.99, and the monthly price has increased. The USD was valued a lot less in 2007 then in 2022.

Hmm, you kinda given answer to your question in thread title.

That being said, one of reasons is that central banks made printing presses go brrrrrr

So the when the word inflation is mentioned you should not question or reason specificts why somthing is going up in price?

There was no WoW token and cash shop during burning crusade. Blizz is earning money not only through the sale of expansion and the sub. It’s just a way to bait addicting people to spend 50 more dollars for no reason other than making a quick buck.
You are already paying sub and even more. This game is basically a service. Why do you need to buy an expansion on top of it all? Considering all previous content becomes irrelevant due to how wow is designed?

Because they can get away with it.

because sheep will pay any price to fuel their mmo addiction and blizzard knows this and this is also why they keep getting away with making bad expansions because even it’s a steaming turd people will still buy it heck judging by some posts they will even happily pre order it

When everything costs more also the employers of blizz cost more on the company so the final product will cost more.

I already regret I preoredered the 10. as there are still major bugs in the current expansion! I did Mythic HOA and we could not engage the end boss. 30 minutes wasted for nothing.

Don’t forget a digital download is a lot cheaper than the added cost of physical media, packaging, shipping and distribution and yet it’s priced the same.

As a software engineer i can tell you that over the last 10 years my pay has risen with 2-7% percent every year. At the end of the day, its the customer that gets to pay for it.

I don’t know if your $39.99 is correct but a simple inflation calculator will tell you that $39.99 would be $56.39 today.

That coupled with the fact that the USD is stronger against both the Pound and the Euro since 2007 would be a strong contender for the price rise.

I think we got used, Vanilla - WoD (Legion), that Blizzard prices were static even when costs were going up and overheads too, that now they are increasing the price expac on expac and adjusting sub prices for inflation and exchange rate it seems to hit the wallet even harder.

Because they need oil ?

But let’s face it. Nobodies going to do that.

You’re as addicted as the rest of us. Now get back in the line for the dripping mount tap!

But you’re not one of us right?

So you’ve got an active sub to be able to post on the forums whining about a game that you allegedly haven’t even got installed??
