Instant cast, 0 counterplay stuns last the longest

Have you noticed how the stuns that are instant cast and can’t be countered in any way, shape or form last the longest, whereas stuns that actually require some setup an can be completely prevented (shadowfury, capacitor totem) have a low duration?

Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

Fear begs to differ and can’t stuns be reflected?

Fear is not a stun.

In this case you’re comparing single target stuns to AoE stuns.

They hit multiple targets that’s why they don’t last as long.

Let’s see a stun stops you from doing anything so does fear. Seems similar to me.

You’re comparing single target with AoE.
The single target stuns are balanced around their cooldowns.

Also Bash for Druids got nerfed to 4 second duration/60s CD.
Other then that it’s just Hammer of Justice?

Fear breaks on damage taken. Stuns do not.

As said above, AoE stuns should have more of a draw back (cast time). DH excluded because… they’re a DH.

I mean…Until recently, Leg Sweep and Chaos Nova were instant cast AOE stuns, and they used to last 5 seconds.

But in any case, my point stands: 6 second stuns shouldn’t be instant with 0 counterplay. If a stun is to last that long, it should have counterplay.
Hammer of Justice is somewhat fine because it can be completely remove by a healer, and it’s subject to spell reflection.

Other than Hammer of Justice, which instant stun lasts that long?
Genuine question because I’m struggling to remember one. Bash has been nerfed like I said.

They are instant yes. But they didn’t last 5 seconds. No AoE stun lasts that long if I remember right.

Stuns are balanced around several factors:

  • stun duration
  • number of targets
  • cast time
  • cooldown

I’m pretty sure you won’t find a stun that is good in all of these categories.

There’s counterplay in form of the PvP trinket that removes CC effects, but sometimes you just need to sit out a stun. Knowing when to trinket a stun and when not to is part of PvP, just keep in mind that both sides have several CC effects in a PvP fight.

Currently in pre patch the time to kill is really really low. I think that’s mainly why stuns feel so bad.

You can’t get 100-0’d with extreme burst in a Fear (unless insane double Chaos Bolt lmao maybe that’s why you overlooked this fact)

Most stuns have either counter play or a cost/requirement?

  • HoJ - can be dispelled
  • Kidney shot - Can be dodged/parried/immuned, can be prevented with disarm, requires energy and CP but has max duration
  • Stormbolt - lower duration but ranged with no cost, can be immuned (although why you’d immune it Im unsure)), can be MC’d, can be prevented with disarm,
  • Leg sweep - can be dodged/parried
  • Cheap shot - lower duration, can be prevented with disarm, requires stealth and energy but rewards CP
  • Lightning lasso - can be interrupted or cc’d off

I have won several games by DfAing or evasioning kidney shot/legsweeps (although admittedly not at the highest mmr but still)

“Unleash an eruption of fel energy, stunning all nearby enemies for 5 sec and dealing x Chaos damage.”

I’m not sure about leg sweep but Chaos Nova was only a 5 sec stun in Legion, which they noticed was a mistake.

That’s why they changed it to a 5 sec disorient and then to a 2 second stun in BFA.

I’m pretty sure, I’ve mained monk for 5 years.

Stuns? What are those?

*cries in MM*

It was 5 secs until BFA where it was reduced to 3 secs.

I “mained” Monk for like barely 2 months in BFA and I can tell you it’s 3 seconds.

i mean yeah but counting a 5 combo point kidney shot as ‘‘instant’’ just because it has no cast time is a bit much
