Since today, every time I launch the game, I get a message in the middle of the screen recommending to update the firmware for my BIOS. Until this message is closed, the game simply does not launch.
I do not plan to update my BIOS, since it works fine on the previous version. Thanks for your concern, but can I finally stop getting this annoying notification before each launch of the game?
World of Warcraft has detected your computer is using an
Intel 13th or 14th generation processor that does not have
the proper updates installed to adddress potential processor
instability issues. It is highly recommended to update the
BIOS on your motherboard to the latest version with Intel’s
microcode 0x12B or later.
If you are using the specific CPUs without firmware upgrade they are likely going to be physically degraded over time (if they are not already) causing issues like crashes and other instability.
I would strongly recommend to upgrade motherboard BIOS and/or drivers provided by computer OEM if using a pre-built.
“likely going to be physically degraded over time”
even if, i dont need parenting from a software company, i am 52 and have a mcse, my 13600 is undervolted and will sure not degrade, my wow did not crash since i have the cpu in 2013, better not even windows crashed once from the time i got a stable undervolting.
Upgrading the bios should not be in responsibility of anyone than the owner, someone think people todays need parenting on all topics? We are adults, we have responsibility and face consequences, its just going into the wrong ways, its not only this bios update popup.
The whole bug (or multiple actually) is that more power than the safe maximum can still be requested on multiple levels…your mitigation most likely doesn’t mean very much.
Most users prob don’t even think about updating their BIOS. So, yes, some need guidance and a stimulance to consider it. Heck, they prob don’t even know this is a problem…
Bugs causing actual physical damage to the computer hardware are very rare so I think this is just good thing that Blizzard is increasing awareness for it. Like Magiola said, many users are not as knowledgeable as Meliva claims to be.
I understand this, but I don’t have the ability to safely update the BIOS right now. If anyone doesn’t know, updating the BIOS firmware is a pretty unsafe event. And it’s highly advisable to do this with a UPS, which I don’t have at the moment. And sudden power outages are a fairly common occurrence for me. When I have the ability to safely update, I’ll do it. And I don’t need to be reminded about it several times a day in the launcher.
P.S. They just need to make this reminder one-time. Or add the option “don’t show again”.
If the notice was able to be ignored people would be far more likely to ignore it. I believe reminder about GPU drivers is only shown only once so it might be bug that this is shown multiple times or decision based on the hardware damage and limited amount of users likely to be affected by the message. Personally I think the message should be shown at every launch or at very least once per day until updated.
Did you actually update the firmware by using bios update? Running test as far I know just shows if your CPU has detectable failure or not.
no i run the test - it said every “passed” the test on every aspect
i have high end PC that i bought less than a year - i do not intend do anything major (that i have no idea how to do i first place) only because some intern screwed up coding or trolling us
I see my power always on screen, CPU and GPU power consumption, the CPU reaches under load Prime 95 max 70°C and the Intel diagnotics utility passes green too, i read more about it, the CPU goes over 100°C in this, semiconductor lose their charge when run too hot too long (sry im not english so this might be not the perfect technical wording, i learned in germany electronic communications), and not only is the CPU undervolted you can cap the max Wattage the CPU draws, in my Bios i always set it to 90W cause i run my computer 24/7 and its better to keep long term safe. Besides i got the bios update from mid of last year which includes the fix, dont know why Blizz now comes half a year later with this popup, which also pop ups on mine when it should not pop up.
It’s no error on Blizzard’s part.
As I understand, the message will keep popping so long as your Microcode is not 12 whether your CPU is functional or not, since they’ll degrade over time.
This issue isn’t related to Blizzard at all but instead Intel. It seems to have been happening for some months now, but Blizzard is only now putting out a notice.
HP doesnt have the update yet it seems.
There was a a bios update update for me, but that brought it to 0X129 version and according to the message it needs to be 0X12B
Edit: after the update using the HP support assistant i found in the HP community that there’s another update to be found in the windows update section
Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates > HP Inc. - Firmware 15.xx.x.x.
This brought me to the right version.
For those doing a Bios update for the first time: You have to expect your pc might restart a bunch of times, sometimes you get a screen with progression, sometimes the screen is black and you can’t see what it’s doing.
Just let your PC do his thing, when done (5 to 10 minutes) he will be on your login screen
No, it was always bad, I can find posts and videos about this issue in the tech world from five months ago. Blizzard just only now warned people about it.
You need to update your BIOS by finding in your motherboad (depending on model) the update that addresses the 13th/14th gen issues and sets the Microcode to 12. Intel has made locating the updates available per model here:
Updating the bios resolve absolutely nothing.
I had the crashes issue since DF season 3 (never before)
I search many solution to finally find this tips :
DL intel extreme tuning utility and Downclock de proc speed from 55x to 52x = fix
Updating bios resolve nothing, do not waste time people.
If someone knows how to hide this annoying f. message please tell me.
