Wearing my inspirations on my sleeve right off the bat with this one, a great part of my interest in sparking this off is related to past experiences with the Twilight Hammer’s ‘Dusksworn Desiderata’. I would be remiss not to mention it first and foremost.
Player-written books, poems and all that are fantastic and I would love to see them cross that boundary from say, being somewhere on the archives to being something your character can actually read in-game.
The general gist of the idea is that using TRP3:Extended, no google docs, no outside links! To open a player bookshop say one or two times a month, I don’t want to go too bananas with it. Faction neutral - we’ll say the publishing house has some good translators - all that good stuff.
Back in the day, the books were often short-form or trailed off like the Steamy Romance Novels we see in-game. There’s no expectation from me either for someone to crack out their inner Hemingway in order to contribute.
I cobbled together an example of the idea last night in a short-form book;
I’ve had some wonderful sorts get in touch saying they have their own IC materials they’d be happy to contribute to this project, but I thought it best to put the feelers out here too before going ahead with anything.
I also know TRP3:Extended isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, or people may not be too comfortable fiddling with it - wonderful addon, but it does have its quirks! - so I am more than happy to help convert texts into TRP items.
I’ve had this idea for donkeys, but this is my first foray into this sort of thing. There may be some teething and I’m ever open to suggestions, or even voiced concerns!

Completely love the idea of a bookshop!
For the knowledge market we held - we used TRP3 Items and made up books/spell books. It.was -so- much fun! I loved reading what other people made up!

I hadn’t the foggiest the market used TRP items! Or that were books already out there - I hope I’m not stepping on any toes mate! I’m happy to work things together if there’s pre-existing things abound.

No toes are being stepped on at all
I honestly think it’s a wonderful idea and would love to see more of this in RP! Especially if the shop was willing to trade or buy books!

I would be thrilled to have my books added to the inventory. I should get on that, if I turn back to casuel rp again.

Absolutely! The aim of the game is collaboration, the more player work and creations that get spread about, the absolute better.
I was always charmed when I’d read the Dusksworn books, or I’d see an author’s name I knew was someone on the server - but someone I’d never met or seen them before IC or even OOC for that matter.

If at any time you want to get anything added to the inventory, just give me a bell mate! I’m happy to take any texts that may be written outside of the game and turn them into items as well, if time or whatever else is a conundrum on your end.

A thousand times yes! I frequented the Dusksworn Desiderata on some of my alliance characters back in the day and it has been sorely missed ever since.

That would be lovely! I might even make a few TRP3 books myself and contribute to the pile of books, if I manage to figure out how to handle TRP3:E in-game text creation.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who pines for it!
If you’re still out there Feranos, I owe you big time!

Absolutely magical mate! Give me a bip on discord (mrdarwenstreet) or anywhere else that works well for you, if you’d like a hand with anything! I have some great resources for if you want to add any fancy things like images, or what-not!

A bookshop should be doable with the TRP tools, you can even pick out a place that has existing assets like a bookshelf and put a stash on it to fill with your books.
I say go for it.

This is a sick initiative! Hopefully I get the time to add some to the pile myself.

I am quite certain people would not be keen on having the Director’s ledgers and handbooks written for the public. Though, things could be supplied under a different character, though, uncertain how to completely do so.

I honestly didn’t expect such a warm response to the idea, I’m glad I’m not alone in fiending for a bit of the heydays again. Thank you very much everyone who’s shown support!
I’m compiling some of my own contributions to get the ball rolling, but I am accepting submissions for the shop as I get all my other ducks in a row. Can’t have an opening without inventory!
It’s not the most fantastic resource, but for anyone who’s new to making books in TRP3:Extended, I cobbled together a google document with a very short tutorial just going over how to get into things.
You can find it here!
If you need any further assistance with anything, you can find me in-game on (H) Yago, or discord (mrdarwenstreet).
When everythings good to go, I’ll have a proper thread up with all the info, location, time, date, yadda yadda - you know the drill!
