Interest Check - Thief A-RP

This concept has not long been thought about by me, and seeing what people have “tried” to create before almost puts the whole idea to shame. However. I’d like to start up a proper thief RP guild. None of the “assassin kill u inrp on sight and smoke ic felweed” stuff, but a properly organised suit of criminals. Something that could grow into an Azeroth-wide business. How many people would be interested in RP’ing with and/or joining such a concept? This, of course, won’t be available to join for some time, as roots must be planted and a solid foundation for the guild has to be made. As the title of the thread dictates, this is simply a check for interest. If you have suggestions as to what you think would make this guild more solid, please leave them in the comments!

Love me some decently done shady RP, def interested.

By Thief RP, do you mean actually going around pickpocketing strangers and stealing valuables, or standing around in a tavern doing nothing?

I suppose the title is rather vague, and that’s on me.

My intention is to make it organised, as stated - meaning, a lot of the thieving done will be premeditated. That isn’t to say that some of it won’t be attempts to pickpocket people, that will be very limited as not everyone is willing to be pickpocketed - understandable, truly. Perhaps a cover could be created where we run a bar, or something - and only a select few know the true nature behind the guise. However. Inactivity won’t be a part of it, I’d love to create an active community that interacts with many guilds.

In that case. Go for it.

Well during war times it’s often that the resources go toward the war itself and there’s less attention on crimes that may cause havoc or run rampant within cities.

I’ll keep an eye on this, since this is interesting. Shady RP in general can be done and can be done right; it just has to be done right.

If you need someone over on Horde to give out a helping hand, I’m all in.

(Potential for Azeroth-wide business was discussed above, hence why the last sentence)

As I mentioned, I have every intention of pulling this off correctly. I appreciate the feedback, and be sure to keep a close-eye out as a great deal of effort will go into this! No more stupidly open thieves with titles galore.

I wish you best of luck and least drama possible!

Criminal RP in general can be pulled off right. I pulled a stunt in a campaign on an alt where I gave alliance prison keys to a troll on my Alliance character and never got caught.

I’m faithful you can do it; hence why I have my hopes out for this. Could be one of the better guilds around so long you don’t stick to Stormwind only.

Goodness, no! This may be the greatest crime-spree that Azeroth has ever seen. We’ll operate everywhere, Stormwind is only the beginning.

Awesome, awesome  Then my suggestion is to focus on more than just murders, try to make it helpful to give you out a gain albeit through mysterious ways. Helping the other faction or trading information with them, war crimes, or just smaller crimes that do not include death are all on the table. (And the consequences that come with it. I literally forgot this and put this in this paranthesis. No RP comes without it’s own consequence, albeit small or big.)

As 90% of the criminal RP guilds seemed to focus on beating eachother up. And then that’s it. If you bypass that, I’m more than certain you’ll do great!

Here’s a small perverted suggestion from me. All too often in fantasy worlds they have thieves’ guilds with all the fun shiz such as using cant to pass on secret messages in seemingly usual chit-chat and leaving marks in houses, crypts and so forth depicting whatever the previous member wants to say (f.e. “Danger!”, “Rich person’s house”, “Thief hideout”, “Explosive trap!”).

I’d really love a thieves’ guild of this sort to be a thing in WoW RP (although I’ve seen on the forums Lakeshire may apparently be legally allowing to commit illegal acts :eyes:). You could draw inspiration from many things, such as Pratchett’s Discworld (hello, Lakeshire), Elder Scrolls game series and et cetera.

This brings me to the last suggestion, it being to make this a thieves’ guild formed within the Uncrowned, seeing as to how they’re the big rogue players and usually I’m of the belief you shouldn’t re-invent the wheel, rather attach your creation to the existing wheel. So you could have a neutral thief group in the Uncrowned, probably with some kind of a codename (seeing as to how big the Uncrowned organization is one’d expect there’s a bunch of separate squads, gangs and groups, so they’d probably choose names for those gangs to differentiate between each other). So, there’s that. :upside_down_face:

Murder will -not- be a part of this. That’s for assassins. We’re thieves. Lowlifes, beggars, homeless, generally anyone with a less-than functional moral compass, but above all we’ll have that honour among thieves, no murder allowed.

I get where you’re going with your concept a little better now, thank you for the clarification.

So deleting someone else’s TRP profile is off the table; this is sounding more interesting than before. And sounds promising! Best of luck my friend, I really hope this works out for you.

You’re the Gray Fox! Y-you’re under arrest f-for for all kinds of stuff! You’re wanted dead or alive, I’m… I’m choosing dead!

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated and noted! Truthfully, a lot will be inspired by the Elder Scrolls series, namely the “no murder” and “no getting caught” ordeal. I hope that what I create will be something that people talk about for ages to come.

From my experience, running criminal guilds that refrain from killing makes for a much less toxic environment, and it is nice to see it being considered here. Not only is it more interesting to find alternative solutions to problems, it also works towards continuing plots (instead of snuffing them out), and avoiding the OOC drama that ever-so-often arises when character deaths are involved. However, as a slight word of warning, you might find that the niche of non-killing criminals is quite small. I hope you find the needed support for the concept, regardless, and I wish you the best of luck for the future!

Best of luck with this! The Blue side needs more shady business, so I totally look forward to see this happen. Hope to run into your thieves in rp soon!

All advice is taken into account! I appreciate this, and whilst I understand the niche is indeed quite small, I hope to expand this tenfold.

As a rogue and former pure non-violence thief roleplayer, I approve of this strongly.
