Interface Data Sync using OneDrive

Hello,
May i ask if syncing my WTF, Interface folders with one OneDrive in order to be able to have all my wow data synced between my pc and laptop with the following method will cause lag, fps drops and shutter.

Step 1: Copy interface, WTF and/or Screenshots folders (C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft) you are wanting to sync to a folder you made in your OneDrive. In the examples going forward, this folder will be referred to as “WOW Settings.” Rename the folders you copied in your original WOW directory to serve as a backup.

Step 2: Open Command Prompt

Step 3:

mklink /D “C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\WTF” “C:\Users<YOUR NAME>\OneDrive\WOW Settings\WTF”

mklink /D “C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\interface” “C:\Users<YOUR NAME>\OneDrive\WOW Settings\interface”

mklink /D “C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Screenshots” “C:\Users<YOUR NAME>\OneDrive\WOW Settings\Screenshots”

one of the first thing that i do when i install new windows is to remove onedrive .it keeps on uploading and downloading game files which causes all sort of problem .if you are gaming do yourself a favor and uninstall onedrive

I don’t use OneDrive at all as I have never trusted my data personal or otherwise in a cloud environment (yes my tinfoil hat is on).

What I do is configure my UI for all characters then I make a copy of the WTF foler and save in the documents folder under a sub folder which I call wowbackupwtf. If for what ever reason I need to replace it I just copy and paste into the appropriate folder.

I’ve thought about doing that myself.

WoW only writes to the config files on closure so you should be okay with it during game play.

It’ll only do that if you ask windows for OneDrive to be a back up for your docs etc. You can configure what OverDrive does with a little effort. If you’re digitally clumsy the version history can be a god send.

It should not cause any problem at all, but everyone who uses online backup services like OneDrive instead of local backup software has experienced issues at least once in the past where they have permanently and irrecoverably lost something they wouldn’t have if they didn’t use it in the first place.

So yes, you can use it without fear and without issues because the worst thing that could happen is to lose your settings and needing to recreate them from scratch when switching devices.
