Interface settings not saving?

It seems like if something is disregarding the settings that I am giving for what addons I want to load, if I want all the action bars to show etc.

Is it happening to anyone else?

PS: do not tell me I need to delete my keybinds, macros etc.

It sounds like perhaps your user profile does not have permission to read/write to the folder where they are stored. Find your World of Warcraft folder, right click it, choose Properties, then security tab and make sure either your username or “Users” or “Everyone” has Full control of the folder and apply. Or find the wow.exe and right click it, choose properties and set “Run as Administrator”.

There has been issue with the list of addons not being saved properly causing issues that eg. all addons are loaded even if some are disabled. From my personal experience this seems to affect new characters the most though usually logging in to the character once and then using the esc -> addons settings to disable the wanted addons work and the settings are saved properly.

Yes it seems the issue happens on the one character that I recently changed their race and name.

It does not load the keybinds either.
The action bars are stuck in a state where they are on display but the empty buttons are not displayed.

If I try turning them off, they will not dissapear but the UI moves a bit as if they were removed when they are not

I tried all that and nothing changed sadly/

That’s very odd, your addons and settings are stored in the Interface and WTF subfolders… if you can write files there it should be fine.

Do you also close the game properly via the Game Menu? I’ve heard that if you play windowed mode and click the X then it does not save exit settings correctly.

Yes I close it via the ingame menu only.
Also most of the problems only happen on the character that got recently name and race changed.

Meanwhile the issue about the global addon settings (as in which ones to load) seems to be an issue for all the characters

WoW doesn’t migrate settings from the old name to the new name when renaming characters so it is new character as far WoW and addons are concerned.

I once copied the OldName addon settings to NewName and used Notepad++ to mass rename all occurances of “OldName” to “NewName” in the addon settings files. Worked without issues though I suggest making backups first.

I would like to update that I fixed the action bars issue by tracing the issue back to the Bartender4 addon and disabling it.

Also I do not am not 100% sure if that was what did it, but using Notepad++ to replace all the instances of the old character name+ disabling Bartender4 seems to have fixed all the addon saving issues too.

I am not sure if it was also the game client repair + giving full access to for users to the wow folders that also took effect with a delay but it seems all is well now

PS: Many thanks to Grelier for notepad++

The fact “all is well now” is the important bit. Well done for perservering.
