Introducing the Trading Post!

You made the conscious decision to pay for whatever you’ve chosen to purchase. You may not like this response, but deal with it - it’s legitimately that simple

This was a choice that you decided to make, and if you were worried about these same things being obtainable through other methods in the future, you shouldn’t have forked out for them. It’s almost like you should make purchases because you like something rather than to flaunt it as a form of hollow bragging rights - the former is a much wiser and long-lasting purchase

At least on that we agree

but let me try one more time anyway

  1. you pay for something
  2. you get to enjoy the thing
  3. 10 years later someone else gets it for free
  4. you lose NOTHING

you already had 10 years of enjoying said thing, that’s what you paid for
if you want your money back, you should give blizz the 10 years that you had this thing back

other people getting something for free =/= you losing something
you still have the mount, even though other people get it as well

That’s pretty cool, but are they just selling removed cosmetics like store mounts and anniversary enchants or are they going to sell CM sets and glad sets too? Kind of a big difference.

I’m hoping for both tbh

Really? Personally there is a huge red line between adding back simple fomo items like 15th anniversary mounts, or old store cosmetics compared to selling things that were gatekept out of a skill check.

skill checks have even less reason to be timegated than anniversary stuff IMO

If I start doing pvp now and get the gladiator mog or mount, why SHOULDN’T I be able to grind for a vicious saddle equivalent and get the old stuff?
If I do +20 keys now, why SHOULDN’T I get CM mogs that were easier at the time since only heroic existed

someone could start WoW today and be a world first raider in 2 years, but they can’t get Mage tower weapons because of… reasons?

best case would be for all of these challenges to be scaling and evergreen, but since that won’t happen, I’ll take getting the old stuff from this thing

Nevermind, i re-read the article and it did actually specify ‘‘cosmetics from promotions that are no longer available as well as items normally available for cash purchase on the in-game store’’.

I just dont like breaking what makes something valuable, if you got gladiator in tyrannical season, that is a proof of something you did, in a certain meta, with certain tools, certain balancing, when the game was different, and you have a reward for being the best THEN. If someone can just go and buy your titles and mount 10 years later, it removes any and all meaning to the reward.

This obviously doesn’t apply the same to say Tyraels Charger, or the Theramore Tabard, or the Gnomeregean/Troll allegiance toys or the ragnaros enchant since you didnt need to do something special.

I disagree

I don’t think a good player should be locked out of rewards because they didn’t happen to play at the time

FOMO shouldn’t exist in games IMO

Well sure, maybe it’s just a disagreement on the term.
I don’t belive time sensitive is the same as fomo.

if it’s impossible to get something after a set amount of time, no matter how skilled you are in the future, then it’s FOMO

But how? FOMO kind of implies it’s something everyone can get in on, but that isn’t the case with challening content like Glad or CM stuff, because not everyone was even expected by Blizzard at the time to be able to get it, in fact, not getting it was more normal than getting it.

FOMO doesn’t have anything to do with difficulty though
so the farmable DF prepatch gear is FOMO
and glad mog is FOMO as well

and in my opinion FOMO shouldn’t exist and everything should always be available
(preferably through evergreen content that scales appropriately, like pvp already does)

It does though, you can’t compare the ‘‘FOMO’’ of a limited run on sneakers vs a limited run on a certain subset of Bugatti supercars, because basically everyone can afford the shoes, but not even 0.01% of the world can comprehend missing out on the car.

That’s what i am saying, if you can’t even realistically get it under any circumstance, how is it FOMO when you know it goes away? I am not glad material currently, so there is no fomo when DF season 1 ends, because it doesnt matter that the stuff goes away in a couple months or whatever because even if i wanted to get it, it would be near impossible.

However, this is definitely not the same as me missing out on say the MoP pre-patch tabard, since the only criteria for that was logging in to the game and doing a questline with no requirements.

So much unhinged hype in this thread.

I totally agree with this, but I do think stuff like Challenge Modes, Mage Tower challenges and rated PvP should be earned through ingame activities, not vendors.

I would give an arm and a leg for a chance to earn the elite priest set from Legion, for instance, and it’s moronic that I can’t - but simply picking it up for a handful of tokens would be a bit meh.

those are the same thing for me

doesn’t matter if I can’t get the stuff now
it’s still gonna suck when I get glad in s2 for example and can’t get the reward I actually wanted

and that’s not even the most annoying thing
as I said, what’s the reason that the player that starts today and becomes a world first raider in 1-2 years can’t get mage tower appearances, even though they obviously always had the potential and skill for it?
there is no reason other than “blizz said so” and BS FOMO

in 10 years, are you gonna tell the next 15 year old pro gamer that they can’t get the stuff that they obviously would have gotten if they were alive back then? that’s stupid IMO

I agree, I would prefer it if they just made the mage tower evergreen, put the challenge mode sets into m+ as rewards and extended the vicious saddle system for glad sets and mounts

but I’ll take a vendor over nothing

Awesome addition. People want to spend money to play the game, not to buy mounts and pets. And the old stuff coming back is chef’s kiss

I don’t feel like you should pay for this. At this point they could charge for everything…

You’re already being charged for (If you also chose to);
•Expansion
•Sub fee
•Cosmetics on the store
•WoW Tokens

If this is also being another addition on that, I don’t know how i will feel about that, Of course, I do know that it’s all cosmetics, and not something you need to do, but i feel that something new into the game should be a little free of time, since you pay for the game already, and there’s a whole store for MTX. This would be a good little non paid thing with time to be spent in game for.

So you think Messi should have a shot at getting the 1970 golden globe because he wasn’t born at the time but obviously he would have had the potential to get it?

A good player gets to obtain the trophees corresponding to the period he is/was, not only good, but also actively participating.

That’s basic logic and this whole notion of “FOMO” people speak about in every topic regarding video games rewards since a year or two is extremely cringe.

Fear of missing out is a PLAYER MADE problem and devs shouldn’t spend efforts solving issues players make for themself.
