For most of the classes that can use staves, they are just sitting on our backs and we never use them. Why not allow us to make them invisible? The most powerful mages like Azshara, Elisande or Kael didn’t use staves and since players are kind of op it would make sense.

Maybe at least make them moggable to something else as a compromise?

At least from lore perspective it’s not really true. Legion pretty much debunks that.

He used a sword.
Medivh, Khadgar and Jaina were also shown to use staves.
If you ask me it’s more for practical reasons like in game cutscenes using the same casting animations as playable characters.

Don’t wanna break it to you! But Azshara uses a staff, at least it’s part of Nazjatar statues in Nazjatar and her model, it’s the same staff that drops from her.

Does the source of the power really matter?
There was a staff in Draenor that had a model but was invisible when sheathed. The Gas-Powered Stick! https://www.wowhead.com/item=119430/gas-powered-stick&bonus=0
Sadly it was “fixed” in Legion and shows a model again. 
I know so many people, me included, who bought it just so we could hide our weapon transmog and they took it away. I guess it’s just not their inteded vision for the game! :<

Alternatively they could just make animations for casters that include their weapons, I’d prefer if my weapon on my Mage or Warlock felt like it wasn’t just a stat stick.

They did tha twith windwalker monks in legion, since the swords just sit on their back all the time they made it so you can’t see the weapons unless you unsheaf them and then they go invisible again when you are fighting.
Not sure why they don’t do the same for staves. Just make it a transmog “hidden” thing like you can with the other items.

I would love to mog staves even if I have MH/OH equipped, since it is way better than staff atm thanks to socket and corruption (and also the fact that there is not a single haste crit staff).
and that staff was expensive at the time fooling us in to believing that its invisibility was intended
It would be cool to have animations that include using staff. Like, for example, raising staff in front of you with both hands for Arcane Explosion or smth.

Yeah, i’ve always wanted invisible weapon transmogs, i as a druid literally dont use my weapon on ANY specialization, why do i have a weapon on me? I don’t know, for aesthetics? Who knows.
