Ion and his devteam

I’ve never seen someone so bad at his job keeping it for so long. What’s going on? Is he somehow related yo Jay-Allen Brack? Now serious. SL will have plenty of issues - mark my words - there will be huge covenants drama as it will be another azerite like system. PvP players will still complain over broken PvE trinkets and PvE players will still suffer because of PvP players pretending they want to progress raid only to get an item they need for arenas.

Some will say “but Ion said he will try to balance and they will make PvP gear the best in PvP”. Do you still believe in what he says?! Come on.

There is a rumor you have to buy SL to be able to play TBC. Sales problem solved. Sub no. is presented merged 99% so it makes Ion look better.

That sounds totally fabricated, there has been nothing to suggest this will be the case.

They haven’t even made any announcements about TBC yet and I would expect it to work in exactly the same way as Classic currently does. It will simply require a subscription.

He played classic 12 hours a day. Of course he was a failed Lawyer.

I heard Ion has a secret video-tape of Jay-Allen Brack whilst having affair with money. So Ion blackmails him, hence he cannot get fired :smirk:

This…yea it is currently greatest problem I have with arenas and will be the same for Shadowlands apparently. I don’t think I can go beyond 2k rating without OP raid trinkets.

I am at Ion Team! Don’t give up! Don’t relent! Press your vision against forever-unhappy mob!

I’m not entirely happy about the direction WoW is going in but a rumor… what is this high school?

I think rewards should be just mailed to people every week if they have logged enough hours. Let’s say you have played 5 hours last week, so you get a 465 item in your mail. We’re already almost doing that, so why not just… go ahead and proceed.

This game that I’ve never played and is 6 months from release is bad and nothing you say can change my mind

my boss is terrible at his job and he works there at the same position for like 10 years (i think he knows somebody there), but i guess he never gets promoted because of it.

Is that sarcasm?

Ion really needs to ditch that " we know what’s fun and you don’t " approach to things ever since he took over that outlook has become more commonplace.

You are completely right, i suggest to make YOU instead of Ion doing his job, pretty sure you are able to make WoW great agaihhhhnnn!

On a serious note: it’s not all Ion’s fault if actually the game is not in the best situation

If anything, Ion is a blessing to WoW.

Can you imagine a lead dev that doesn’t play the game or is only interested in… pet battles?

It takes a certain amount of experience in order to call the right shots, and it takes a big amount of patience to deal with a fanbase like WoW and not cave in to nonsensical demands like " Horde bias #TM "

Legion was a success, in fact a great success I’m pretty sure Ion was there with the team, do we blame him?

Infact Ion has been there for a veeeeery long time, I don’t see people blaming him until he became the face of WoW development.

Now I don’t like BFA, it sucks and it’s absolute poo especially the arms warrior design, but I don’t think yelling at the top of my lungs FIRE X FIRE Y FIRE THEM ALL is gonna help, it’ll only make me look like an immature child.

So how about instead of complaining, you restructure your OP in a well-mannered, comprehensive way as to what’s your problem with the game atm and if you have a suggestion or an idea, present it.

He has it covered for at least another 4-5 years up until he releases legacy servers for Wrath. Legacy servers hide the obvious problems in recent expansions, which in any other case would have made them change direction. But even nostalgia has its limits and i think Cataclysm will be one in this case.

It is relative what you mean by success. First, it was certainly better than the WoD monstrosity but compared to really successful expansion, it was far from it. It didn’t have either great player retention or financial results to be called a success.

Compare him now to Jeff Kaplan: Classic - mid Wrath and Tom Chilton - mid Wrath - mid WoD.

Also saying that it’s not only Ion’s fault is laughable. He is the game director - means he approves every piece of design and he directs designers to work in certain way. So he is responsible for it 100%.

I’m not the Game Director it’s his job to make community satisfied. PvP is worse than ever. In Legion at least PvE players and casuals were satisfied. Now even them are pissed on these rng mechanics and repeated mistakes. There is no way you can make every azerite piece and some of them will overperform by huge margin in the same fashion legendaries did and corruptions do now. Covenants will be the same and I don’t need SL to be released because I played this game for years and I experienced the same mechanics before. They will try to balance it only creating bigger mess like they did for years.

People said MoP was gonna flunk, yet it’s now hailed as one of the best expansions and as the expansion with the most solid gameplay design from a lot of people.

Success is relative, if you like it and everybody doesn’t is it still a success? ( like me loving corruptions but everyone hating them ).

In that narrative, I think a lot of people and myself included I admit have a little bias in their views and forget the simple fact that… some people won’t complain if they’re happy, they will be to busy playing the game and enjoying it, while others who don’t just… quit.

We didn’t see 5-10m I quit posts on the forums, yet afaik WoW lost that number of subscribers.

Now here’s my opinion on the matter.

You want to satisfy :-

  1. PvP arenas
  2. PvP battlegrounds
  3. PVP Duels
  4. World PVP
  5. PVP rated battlegrounds
  6. PVE M+
  7. PVE Raids
  8. PVE worldquesters
  9. Pet battlers
  10. Achievement hunters
  11. Profession lovers ( we exist, and some of us only play for them )
  12. Secondary professions
  13. Secret hunters
  14. Class design PVE and PVP
  15. Story and lore enthusiasts
  16. Gameplay design and interaction with players
  17. Solo players
  18. Pug players
  19. Guild players
  20. Community players

And I’m pretty sure there are a lot more, and if you look at BFA from a very very far look, an eagle eye’s point of view, you’ll see that nearly every bit of content in BFA has something for everyone to try and satisfy everyone and this is quite literally impossible.

In trying to satisfy everyone blizzard shot themselves in the foot and nearly managed to piss off everyone.

Let me give you just ONE example : Arms warrior

Now frontloaded damage doesn’t really matter in PVE unless it’s a very short fight, but in PVP it matters a lot, and inorder to balance rated arena blizzard shifted a huge portion of the arms warrior frontloaded damage to mastery and inorder to not make mastery useless too.

This preserved warriors power in rated arena, especially in 3v3 and they’re fairly good there, BUT now…

1- Warriors are super weak and probably the weakest class in 1v1
2- Playing warrior in PVE doesn’t feel fun if you like the big hits theme
3- World pvp is impossible without a healer behind you

and many other trickling effects of this change.

It’s not as simple as 1,2,3 and imo trying to satisfy everyone instead of going well this is fun, not entirely balanced but atleast its fun and works in most areas so we’ll leave it like that is the main problem with BFA.

But yeah, that’s my take on it, like I explained above the forums is really a tiny fraction of the player base, we don’t echo what’s happening in WoW accurately.

But your argument also fits Legion. For me it was garbage in nice looking cover. Poor class design with almost no utility, dps race in PvP with barely any mechanics, terrible balance, legendaries, alt unfriendly due to ap. At the begining even artifact research worked only on 1 artifact weapon.

The only reason people see Legion as success are class halls, Illidan, Mage tower and M+. Core of the expansion - class design was terrible.

He came when Legion got released(became a director).
