since he took over in charge the game went down hill fast and lost it’s soul, designing the game only for world first race and boosting communities…Come on Ion its your time to say goodbye brotha. #BfaWasBetter also #Soloqeueu #GoodbyeIon
That’s also expansion Ion’s worked on, so is Legion.
Kay Mr hashtag.
While we’re at it, can we kick out Danuser and co and get actually competent story writers as well?
Maybe because he’s a raid designer and got put into a postion for other stuff because they’re missing workers?!
What I find the most interesting is that expansions like Legion had huge successes like mage tower, yet they entirely scrapped it. They do it every expansion, yet the mission table has been hated since WoD, and it’s stuck around until fricken SL.
Bunch of goons.
I still have no clue where this notion that the game is designed for high-end raiders is coming from. Even scrubs like me in top 500-1k don’t have it great, let alone the very top. We keep having to do more and more crap just to stay competitive. Entire guilds have quit over the amount of things they have to deal with just to keep up.
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
WoW will rise and reborn only when Ion quit and leave that man is a cancer
you mean filling a spot for 5 years ? You are telling me that a multi billionire company like acti-blizzard can’t afford an experienced and good lead dev ? yeah its definitely my fault for having an incompetent person taking charge
What?!
He had a lead role for a team of encounter designers.
Now he has a director role for the WoW team.
That is a natural career progression within a company. Manager to director.
And Blizzard weren’t missing workers when Ion became Game Director. From MoP and through WoD they increased the size of the WoW team by 50% according to Tom Chilton at the time.
Ion himself has explained his career and how he ended up becoming Game Director during a presentation at Pax East some years ago.
It’s seems more like he was really good at his job so he got promoted to a position where he is required to do things he isn’t very good at. The promotion could have easily been decided by someone who doesn’t play WoW, or even games in general, just because they saw a good employee with great results and thought they should promote him. Whether Ion himself should have recognized that he isn’t fit for the job is another question.
It’s easy to criticise someone doing a job when watching from the sidelines.
Instead of your nifty little hashtags, offer up some suggestions, solutions and general improvements or you’ll just end up making a thread for whoever comes next. Wouldn’t want that now would we?
Ion was obviously good at leading a team. The encounter design team made an absolutely crazy amount of high quality raid encounters during MoP. So clearly Ion has a proven record of being able to get a bunch of designers to truly excel at what they’re doing.
And that’s basically part of his job as Game Director, just on a bigger scale.
And we know how he got the job and who he went through. Again, he’s told all this himself at a presentation at Pax East some years ago.
It was John Height, the Executive Producer. The guy who’s name is above Ion’s in the game’s credit section.
There really is no need to speculate much about all this. It’s known and available on the interwebs.
ION explain it in interwiev with preach that they didn’t do mage tower like content because
Mage tower in legion was making sence because of weapon skins and it made sence even from a STORY perspective it was baked into a core of expansion basically
and they didn’t do in BFA because they didn’t have reason for it
IMAGINE that you are designing game like that
I can’t understand how is possible that MOP and WOD challenge modes had very cool TMOG rewards
but since legion m+ they didn’t add anything to that except mount and title
If they kick everyone out there won’t be a WoW for much longer…
Already false in the beginning. Ion was in charge when Legion was created - one of the great successful expansions.
Nah brotha, You’re the false one…Legion launched 30 August 2016 , Ion got promoted to Lead Dev in Octobre 2016…get your facts straight before you claim things you don’t know nothing about. Brotha. Hold this ratio too Brotha.
So he was the game director for most of Legion, especially the second half.
also was the game director of bfa and shadowlands the two master pieces of wow.
So brotha, it means Ion was in charge during whole Legion, brotha. Single patches could have made it downhill brotha, but it went uphill brotha. Or we’re just going to talk about launch, brotha? “ratio?”, I bet you are one of these people who spam that under everyone’s tweets thinking they’re so cool, brotha
