Is against TOS to play WOW on mobile remotely

is against TOS to play WOW bfa on mobile remotely using steam links?

It’s against the rules to not be sat in front of the machine you are playing on or playing remotely, it’s cloud gaming isn’t it?

I don’t mean for a few minutes for a food break or toilet break, but in another location.

That is not really the rule. You just can’t use any third-party server/cloud-provider/service to do so.

Not really. So section V of the License Limitations does not really cover this.

If the Nvidia (I think it’s Nvidia) one has caused people to be banned then so will any other way of doing it.

Risk it if you want but don’t come crying on the forums if you get banned.

That works totally different, if you refer to GeForce Now.

Straight quota from the End User License Agreement:

Cloud Computing: Use the Platform, including a Game, in connection with any unauthorized third-party “cloud computing” services, “cloud gaming” services, or any software or service designed to enable the unauthorized streaming or transmission of Game content from a third-party server to any device.

The ToS is vague for a reason. However, it is safe to assume that streaming the game through “unofficial” or “third party” means to a different device would not be tolerated, and would put your account at risk of being actioned.

The point is, you still do everything on your own computer - there is no Cloud Computing involved. You do not have WoW installed on some server in a datacenter like GeForce Now (the real cloud computing / cloud gaming).

You can argue that with Steam Link you make your own PC a server, but hey, then you get in such grey scales that it becomes impossible for Blizzard to detect and act up on. Besides, your own PC is not a third-party server.

So I would still say that this section does not cover Steam Link.

“or any software or service designed to enable the unauthorized streaming or transmission of Game content from a third-party server to any device.”

It does not matter whether the game itself is located on a server or on a local machine. It is the streaming of the game to a remote machine that is punishable. You can play WoW on a server, but you can not stream it remotely to a different device.

Well, again, that is if you consider your own PC a third-party server.

It IS a third party server, as it is not provided by Blizzard.

The reason terms and conditions ARE so vague, is because if they make them specific:

  1. They would have to be the size of War and Peace, to cover every eventuality.
  2. Players such as yourself would still try and chop and change the written rule, to suit their desires, rather than the what is actually written, or what the intent is.

That is exactly what the OP is trying to do, play via a stream.

If you can access your account and use the machine in front of you to play you are in no breach

Mobile telephones and tablets are far more powerful than the machines we used 15 years ago

It is not difficult to use a Remote Desktop app to control your machine at home from any location

It’s just using tech

Carry on if it works for you

No - he is using a VPN to connect to his machine at home - that isn’t a breach at all however you look at it

Yes, it is cheating. Any connect is nor rigth unless it’s direct.

Yeah, no…

We can argue about this as long as you like, the outcome still won’t change. A remote desktop app does exactly what I have quoted from the EULA before.

The use of remote controlling applications on your computer to play with another device has been prohibited by the EULA, so do not encourage others to get into trouble.

How could they ‘get in trouble’?

Two reasons I say this;

The Blizz servers are only receiving data from the local machine - there is no third party software being introduced to the desktop client

The player is in full control of his toon at all times

Using another device as a dumb terminal to control your main machine is most certainly not cheating

You are simply creating a remote screen and inputs
