Is blizzard cooking a new mmorpg ?

Yeah. It’s called Classic. In fact, once it’s released, it’s going to be Blizzard’s only MMO.

ITT: People complaining about lack of communication because they haven’t realised that the reason why Blizzard is doing a lot of strange or unexpected things is because they no longer consider WoW an MMORPG or know what an MMORPG is. Take your pick.

No.

Well, it’ll surely be Blizzard’s only MMORPG, at least. Remember the original definition of MMO as “ten people online simultaneously”.

As for having two MMOs on the go at the same time, consider what Blizzard said about the decision to merge the current and Classic clients for use in Classic:

Brack: I think we want to make sure that it’s very maintainable. I think the challenge of us being able to resurrect classic WoW in its original form is—it has a certain amount of complexity. But that game was very difficult to manage. It would be effectively like us managing two MMOs, which is not something we want to do.

Yes. Very bad. Horrible for the game.

Esports requires

a) a meticulous balance

b) action to be confined to short intense spectacles so that people can get their satisfaction in a defined short sitting - 10 minutes to an hour is probably optimal, though I’m certainly no expert.

Balance, I have come to understand, is an enemy to enjoyment. We have seen the effects of pruning on our enjoyment of our characters.

Short sharp runs, like Arena, or M+, can be effective as parts of the game in WoW, but these are not what most people do, and distorting the overall game to elevate these minority pursuits is overall destructive.

I would rather quit their games and go full console than play games on a phone!

To me it feels like the Blizzard spirit is slowly deteriorating and turning into another Activision dummy. So really don’t care about any new games from them, as it’s likely to be another casino game.

I’m hoping that Mike Morhaime & Co. might get bored and either start or somehow get involved in a new indie development venture, to give us something good.

Ofc its gonna be worse and worse just watch. After MoP everything started to suck expansion after expansion. Sharding, professions, class design and gameplay. There is simply no light at the end of the tunnel anymore. Its going to be all about grind rng hamsterwheel and spend money on shop and buy boosts. Disgusting.

But that’s what happens in general with (PvP) balance. Anything good or fun has to be nerfed or removed as it’s too good in PvP. PvE ‘fun’ has suffered greatly due to PvP balance. If it’s an eSport then Balance is literally costing you money.

In my observation balance is when your winning.

You’re STILL here so… RoFL?

I dont mind a new MMORPG as long as there is no Esports scene involvements around it.

WOW has been ruined ever since the game is being balanced around Esports.

Jeff Kaplan got STUCK in a Junkrat trap!
To save him you need to tell us your parents credit card number, the expiration date and the the three WHACKY numbers on the back!
im sorry
fyi this is 100% a joke and not meant to be taken seriously tyvm

I feel like the market (in general) is sort of fatigued of MMOs.

You may notice that a lot of new and shiny “wow-killers” emerge and die shortly thereafter. I don’t necessarily think that WoW is so much better than all of them, but people have invested so much time in WoW and new MMOs just doesn’t seem to spark that interest anymore - generally speaking.

Nothing has really been labelled a WoW killer in years. MOORPGs arer just not thre focus now. It’s all about Battle Royale and before that it was MOBAs. It’s Fortnite ‘killers’ we’re seeing; we’ve already seen the PUBG killer. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope not, can you imagine how badly the PC fanatics would neuter any new IP.

MMORPG is following the RTS genre. It’s dying.

There’s no good MMORPGs on the market and the future isn’t showing any promise either. The general interest is just not there anymore; too much effort for too little reward to most. Community was a big selling point, but now with the way social media has evolved people no longer have need for it from MMORPGs so even those that haven’t turned into glorified single players aren’t interesting enough. The rest is just easier to obtain from BR games and MOBAs… or mobile trash.

So no, we will not see a new MMORPG from Blizzard. We’ll see more mobile trash. They’re done on PC.

They said they went too far and wanted to add spells for the long term rather than expansion systems so how about no ?

Their might be an other mmo before blizzard stop any dev for wow, but i wouldn’t bet on a WoW 2.0

They are the most experienced studio when it comes to successful mmo, so it’s not out of the picture they dev another one but it seems the focus is current IPs rather than a new one

I think there will always be a market for MMORPG’s, of the right quality. The real “wow-killer”, is wow itself declining on it’s core values to the point where it feels like a bad copy+pasta of itself.
-Talents, but a simplfied for kids
-Group content, with 0 needed player interactions what so Mmmmrrrrrrllllg ever until Mecchatorque HC.
-Class fantasies and balancing, limited to copies of other classes abilities.
-Exploring the world, but oly the tip of it the depths are gone.

Talents used to be a huge net of synergies, buff, choices and personalizing your play-style for that particular char.
Group content used to actually need a communicating group, not a bunch chars that might or might not be bots.
Remember when X beats Y, Y beats Z, Z beats X?
-Exploring secrets and hard to discover things was a daily part of the game. Not once every 2 years, for a new mount.

It was fun, it was unique.

MMORPG’s main feature, are gameplay and the way social interactions happen. They have both been neglected imho. Playing wow for 10-15 years I used to discover sopmething new every so often, about my char and the way it worked and interacted. The world and it’s many possibilities. I learned things from other people who was better than me, and so, I did the same to others.

It comes from a place of compassion and concern, nothing else.

Blizzard games forced me to expand my understanding of not only the game.
But the english language, social interaction, economy, synergies, mechanics, time managing and much much more.
Now it’s all an endless loop, you don’t really have to understand.

If anything PvP “fun” has suffered because of design decisions made around re-tooling classes from a competitive PvE aspect, not to mention how certain specs function in a way that may work in PvE but make them frustrating to play in PvP due to a lack of sustained damage.

They have removed or made spec specific a whole slew of niché abilities from WoD through BfA that could set a player apart in PvP in their usage. Why? Becuase some of them were found to have no real use in PvE and they wanted to trim down the amount of abilities to make the game easier to balance in general. Part of the reasoning behind the PvP talents even were to get rid of certain problematic abilities in PvE that could create design issues for boss encounters.

There’s a reason why almost any PvP’er prefers the design of pre-WoD classes. It’s not because the game was more balanced back then but because there were a lot of those abilities that allowed you the option to outplay your opponent.
Those are the things that got removed with the continued pruning and it wasn’t in an attempt to create better competitive PvP as that aspect of the game often is an afterthought.

Last time they were rumoured to be making a new MMO it all got scrapped and changed into what is now Overwatch.

If they are I hope its something related to Starcraft. Almost 20 years of lore there. Pick Terran, Protoss or Zerg and conquer the galaxy. Think how easy it would be to create new content: just add new planet full of stuff to do couple times a year.

Tech is already there and they could easily use Overwatch assets and engine. Decent Sci-Fi MMO would be fresh breath. SWTOR just looks horrible and is not very well balanced and its max level content its pretty redundant.

I actually like that idea more than a Diablo MMORPG.
