After the recent patch whenever you want to buy back BoEs from a vender (sold by accident etc.), they are returned to you as Warbound until equipped. This makes them impossible to be sold on the auction house or traded with other players.
Is this an intended change or a bug?
I’ve requested reversal on an item I intended to sell on AH, through a ticket, so far without success. Is there anything else I can do?
My understanding is that it’s due to the new feature which allows you to automatically learn the appearance if you don’t already have it, when you vendor BOEs.
In this case the item is returned as Warbound until equipped to prevent exploitation of this feature.
I think it should be returned to you as BoE if you already knew the appearance - but it’s possible they didn’t get that to work (not tested it myself).
Keep in mid that you can now learn appearances your cannot use on that character.

Thank you for your answer, I understand how it could have ended up like this.
But I have to say that how it worked with greys before seemed like a way better solution. If you sold a grey you didn’t have an appearance of before the prepatch it was automatically added to your tmog collection, but if you bought it back it was removed, always remaining a BOE. I don’t see how this could be exploited, it seemed to just work perfectly.
I’ve just tested if it happens with items you already know the appearance, and unfortunately it does.
To me it really reads more like a bug than intended. Especially if collecting/removing appearances from greys worked so well in the old system already.
Now it’s unnecessary punishing in case of mistakes.
I agree with Furydin that this seems to be working as intended. I was very pleased that the bulk of the items I’ve been grabbing can just be learn upon selling. A few don’t seem to work but on the whole it’s a much less arduous system to add things to your collection.
In my case it’s a beneficial change as well. I’m no longer just vendoring BoEs without realising and not getting the appearances. It’s just a collect all system that if you vendor it’s yours.
However if you really believe this is a bug I would suggest doing a bug report
- Press Esc or click the ? button to open the menu.
- Click Support.
- Click Submit feedback or bug report.
- Enter the details of the bug into the Submit a bug description box, making sure to follow the guidelines outlined on the submission form.
- Click Submit.
Thank you for your reply, I’ve already submitted a bug report as well.
And I also agree that getting an appearance of a BOE when selling to a vender is intended. This part of the change is very welcome and handy.
But I’m questioning the part where you buy it back, but it doesn’t reverse the process. Like in my earlier comment about greys.
