I have friends who boost but that’s never appealed to me either. Nor do I think I’m good enough.
The older I get, the more I value time, I remember back in Cata and M.O.P., I used to make gold the “legitimate” way and during those times at one point I was gold-capped.
Now I just buy Tokens and put them on AH.

Never understimate the power of bags. Especially if you are on a high pop server.
I made 30 m in one patch from crafting that same patch I only made about 2.5m boosting. And around 6.5m from flipping on the ah. And around 2.4m from an alchemy bug that they didn’t fix for 2 seasons
There are always way to make money you just have to think a little
That is without it being cut.
99% of the case you will be boosting for a community, those communities are run with Advetisers (middle men) which aren’t technically allowed; everyone advertising a run should be participant of said run — but this rule is being ignored.
If you attempt to boost on your own, you might get mafia’d by said communities mass-reporting you (It happens).
So, advertisers take a 30-35% cut.
Then the rest is split in 4, cause you aren’t boosting solo.
That boils it down to a much, much lower price, and hence you get roughly 13k for a 18 in time.

It’s a shady business, and nowadays it is infested with poor-mannered people who shout all kinds of insults at eachother in the chat, even infront of clients - in the text chat, for example.
Its quite a poor place now.

Then another legit way people used to do in the past before tokens were a thing is to buy a tcg Item and sell it on AH or to people for gold. For something like Blizzard bear for example you can get like 20m gold if you sell it to someone.

I mean if you stand in a city whilst getting a grp together for something you will see someone wanting a craft usually. I have made quite a lot of gold just doing those crafts + using my excess mettle for insights + alloy crafting 
that and the fact you never have to repair your gear again is pretty nice…
