Is crafting actually viable?

Hey all,

So to explain where I’m coming from, I’d just like to preface by saying I came from a game where gear wasn’t THAT important when it came to PvP. There were a billion ways to obtain it, and even upgrading its tiers didn’t mean that much.
It made going into PvP a lot more accessible, which was really nice. I’ve noticed that WoW is not like this at all - gear is very important.
The thing is, by the time you’ve levelled 120 levels and grinded out some azerite, the last thing you want to do is keep grinding PvE for gear, but you also don’t want to try and take on players in green quest rewards. So I’m wondering, before I get too involved, is crafting viable? For example, can I create leathers for a rogue, or plate for a DK and get away with it? Or am I limited to running dungeons and raids?

Thanks!

Well they did add some sort of normalization in pvp I believe so lower level players woundn’t be steamrolled by geared players. But Azerite traits do matter in pvp and better gear have better slots for azerite abilities.
You can check Icy-veins for pvp-guides for classes that include suggestion for the best pvp azerite traits.

And azerite gear cant be crafted and crafting profession gear is pretty limited.
But playing battlegrounds and pvp rewards with pvp-like gear, so more pvp you do more gear you get.

Ahh you’re right. I didn’t even think about azerite slots on the craftable armor. I suppose armor crafting is really only useful for levelling alts.
Cheers for the suggestions!

Depends on what you plan on crafting. With alchemy for example there is a really nice trinket that is available in 3 versions - 385, 400 and 415. You need to PvE to make all versions, but 385 is still doable because the ingredient you need comes from dungeons which is more accessible for everyone and less time consuming. The other versions require raiding, which I sadly discovered after leveling alchemy to 150. You can theoretically get the item you need from LFR, but the droprate is so bad the trinket will be obsolete by the time you can get the mats for the 415 version.

I seriously hate that Blizzard on one hand says they want people to play the parts of the game they enjoy, but at the same time you have to do certain content for proffessions.

Thanks a lot for the info. Yeah it seems a bit silly that you level your professions, but still need to run dungeons/raids for ingredients. I was kind of hoping that crafting was an alternative way of getting gear, but as I stated, not as powerful as the stuff you get from PvE obviously.
Personally I find dungeons and raids mind numbingly boring. Not easy or anything, just boring.
However, I did notice that 8.2 will have a catch-up mechanic which will allow us to buy nice gear from a currency dropped from quests/WQ’s, so that will be interesting. Truth be told it will be nice to have a new avenue for kitting out your characters, without the whole “Ugh, I have to run X 50 times for Y equipment”.

Crafting have frequently used mats from raids and dungeons to give people incentive to run them.

And untrue about craftable Azerite gear. Engineers can craft goggles for the helm slot. Sitting on a 400 ilvl set currently. about 130 breaths more and i can upgrade them to 415.

Engineers gets another craftable helm in 8.2 with higher stats.

Ye without doing a lot of pve content the gear you can make is boe so it’s all on the ah anyway
