I loved Discord at first until i realised Gchat happens exclusively on discord now.
No one talks in game , no one even talks in voice anymore, no one is using calendar for raid sign up. Socialising is left on meme chat channels.
If you’re not on discord you’re not in guild basically.
Everyone hides in their secret hidden channels aswel. So you know all the officers ( irl friends) all hide in there so you got no one on the discord to talk with anyways if you got a mic.
Finding out that someone on the whim organized a key or raid in a chat channel. It’s like why didn’t you ask in gchat ? Why didn’t you put on calendar for all to see. I just logged on , don’t expect me to scroll back 2 hours of conversation to find that information out. I may have had something else planned , i could only log in for 30 mins.
Not just that they want your private info , like please introduce yourself with a selfie. Like what the hell ?
Discord is rot at the roots of the wow community. Just so many are blind to see it.

I’ve never been specifically asked for my private info, also the guild rules and raid times are usually displayed in a seperate discord channel. I guess every guild discord is different.

That’s my point right there , you are forced into an outside eco-system. To participate inside the game.
Prior to Discord it was Raid Call. Prior to that it was Team Speak / Ventrillo / Mumble.
It’s like you’ve never signed up to a website before?
You can skip that stuff or upload any random picture.
The fact that the WoW community extends beyond the borders of the game is proof that the community is alive and well.

Has nothing to do with discord but everything to do with the barely existing social aspect that’s left in the game.
Didnt leave the game.
WoW made it easier for players to ignore the social aspects of the game they were never removed.
the existance of Pugging and soloability didnt remove your ability to group… it just made it easier for u to decide Not to group.
The community got less Social not the game.
Nonsense. The game killed it and not the players. If you do not need to socialize of course the majority is not going to do it. Saying “buttttt they could” is a trash argument and makes no sense at all.
The social aspect is gone because of what the game has turned into. Blaming the playerbase for something that naturally occurs when you can queue up for literally everything is moronic.

I agree but I think if we plotted it on a graph it would be a dip in social requirements around Cata - WoD. Legion on wards I believe is a more social game.
M+ has brought back social elements, even with tools such as RIO.
Of course it’s still not risen back to the levels of pre LFR.
I am in a lot of discord channels, including for my guild. And i never had to upload a selfie. Discord making the community bigger instead of smaller. And you can hang out in voice on discord while playing too. For your raid sign up, look in #raid-signups.
The chats ingame are terrible too, bye the way. Completely unusable.

Until I can do a dungeon/raid on Discord then no. Sorry for taking you literally.
That’s the real problem. Not Discord - this.
This problem could just as well occur with in-game chat channels or battle.net or communities.
We’ve spent an extraordinary amount of time getting people in the guild to socialise and play together, and we’ve been successful. There’s always activity and there are 5-8 calendar events every single week on the calendar despite this being a 2 nights a week raiding guild.

Yes. I hate it. I don’t want a 24/7 guild that talks about everyone’s random rubbish all the time, that’s too much to keep track of and without making it my life I always end up out of the loop. I liked being amongst the early morning gang.
The drama is tenfold and put me off guilds completely.

That’s just a convenience, nobody really wants your selfie. The only requirement for most guilds is to be in voice when raiding, and even then most of the time you’re only required to listen, not talk.
Sound like an old coot complaining about smart phones removing social interaction from people despite people being able to communicate easily with each other 24/7 around the globe.

Although various discords have the means to introduce yourself I’ve never seen a picture being compulsory. I don’t even know what all my guildies look like. Some are happy to share social media or person pictures, others not so much.
I do like discord myself. It’s a great way to connect with others and it’s so much more convenient than guild chat.

The only things different now from then are the presence of LFG or LFR and these are the only truly anti-social things that have been introduced into WoW. As for the rest it is almost no different now than it was then.
I think it is very much the playerbase rather than the game.
But your guild aren’t on Silvermoon

Are you kidding me? Have you even played the game when it used to be an actual mmo? The game nowadays has NOTHING to do with what it used to be regarding socializing and grouping up or even making friends. It’s a completely different game.
To be honest I think it depends on the GM and the officers in the guild. If they’re very cliquey and real life friends and don’t encourage the rest of the guild to take part, then the guild, whether Discord or not tends to be a lonely place and you’re just there for their benefit.
I remember one guild I was in which was like that, and even on Discord, they’d arrange events between themselves (the officers) and not invite any of the rest of the guildies then disappear off to another Discord for voice. If it was a one off, fair enough, but it was regular, what’s the point of the guild if everyone else doesn’t exist?
