Is dungeon grinding viable as a fresh level 58 character?

I am planning on doing the character boost once tbc launches and join my friends’ group of dungeon grinding from 60-70. All of my mates are geared with aq40 or naxx loot. Do you reckon it is possible for me to keep up with them in the sense that do I reliably get good enough gear from tbc dungeons to at least overtake some of the difference we have? Is it necessary for me to grind gear in advance of tbc launch?

Wdym?
After buying the boost you completed the game… Last 12 levels are meaningless and so is gear, gold, skill and professions.

Your friends could 4-man the dungeons without problems, so that’s a “No” on your question.

Come as you are, as you were, as the boosted will be.

Hopefully this wont turn into a “Give boosted characters Naxxramas-gear so we don’t fall behind our friends”-thread … ^^

Yes.
The dungeon blues are nowhere near as good as T3 gear, but not so far behind that you would be useless (they are roughly BWL level of gear, and get progressively better from there as you level up and run higher dungeons). During the first few runs, you will effectively do nothing, because afaik the boost decks you in CLASSIC dungeon-blues, but since no one needs any of the gear that drops, you will catch up quickly.

No.
The boost is designed to get you to a point where you can immediately participate in TBC content, including normal dungeons.

With the above being said:
The one thing that is definitely not possible, would be for you to TANK the dungeons. Threat is an even bigger deal in TBC than it was in classic, and a tank in classic dungeon blues will not hold threat against people in AQ/Naxx gear.

Either go dps, or heal, and you should be fine.

Eh… As far as I remember, the gear I had on my lvl 58 character (Druid again) back in TBC was even worse than the horrendous gear on this one, and I still didn’t have problems in TBC dungeons. I guess that if everyone was in T3 gear and you were in dungeon blues tanking would be a problem only. Still, since you’ll be playing with friends I’m sure you’ll all smooth out any kinks together.

Its very doable.

It will probably start off as a bit of a carry but there’s not reason why you couldn’t take part if playing with friends. You should get drops as you go, not sure you can get a full set but you could always do something on the side during downtime from group grinding.

Depending how busy it is we have a group that is going to try and hit the dungeon to avoid some of the insane starting area lag in Hellfire Peninsula. If Classic launch was anything to go by it’s going to be pretty crazy.

Perfectly doable, I started with wat worse gear back in TBC when I first crossed the Dark Portal.

But as others have suggested, take a DPS or Healer spot. Your friends will likely do more agro at sixty in their T3 than they will when they first hit 70.

It has already started…
There are even posts in US forums that players want a lvl 70 boost.
BTW regarding the gear the boosted will have is not certain. I think they said there will be greens mixed with dungeon blues if I am not wrong.

If there naxx geared no you will not overtake the difference, you can take most naxx gear straight into Karazhan. However with doing a few specific quests for lacking in drops, combined with the starting gear you get and the drops that you should probably only need at the start you should definatly be able to keep up.
