Is fishing worth it?

Is it worth to level fishing now? Are there any good cooking/Alchemy recipes that use fish?

Sugar coated feasts are great for mythic+ and are fished from DMF.

Thanks. They are not worth so much but we are late in the expansion so maybe thats the issue. Probably at the start of shadowlands will be worth it

Looks like for alchemy only the invis potion (deceiver-potion) uses fish. But since this new M+ season they are not used that often anymore. It is possible some older expansions have interesting recipes that uses fish

I think fishing is really great.

Since i level up in battlegrounds queue only, i got sometime 10mn queue to wait. So i go to boralus even level 34 and i fish in kul’tiras .

So while i wait for queue, i fish grey item that give me in average 4gold 79 silver.
And the extra in that is with my Night Elf Hunter level 64 i fished a Great Sea Ray that as been sold for 88 k golds  !

From a different direction, fishing is totally worth just for the legion fishing pole and compressed ocean toy

I thought it only drops from KT/Zandalar seas?

To answer your question, OP:

Fishing is worth it if you want to farm mats for feasts or potions, or to relax.

If you want to get all the fishing mounts and achievements, run away as fast as you can.

I make a decent amount of coin by fishing and cooking . Besides vacuum-fishing in Mechagon for cooking +crit food, I use to fish in the corrupted areas Aberrant Voidfin and Malformed Gnasher for K’Bab and Grilled Gnasher. Also Fragrant Kakavia (+stam food from Nazjatar fishing) is still worth selling.

While the prices for these cooking items have dropped since the launch of 8.3, they still provide a decent amount of gold.

yea, i stay in queue in kultiras /zandalar.

I take the boat of stormwinds to go like level 30 in Kul’tiras and then i fish.

And for horde i take boat in Darkspear isle and i fish in Zandalar ^^

I was about to ask that. Does the legendary fishing pole has any use now? I mean, our artifact weapons have been destroyed but does fishing pole still has its traits?

Only one thing that worthed fishing was Legendary Fishing Pole in Legion. All other stuff is pointless and is getting outdated outporseffioned in other ways.
Legendary pole though: swim speed, breathing, waterwalking. Too bad it’s abilities o instant catch of pools weren’t carried over to BfA, but at least all passive skills of it still work.

Most of the legion specific ones dont work, swim speed / turn into shark still works. And water walking too i believe

I farm https://www.wowhead.com/item=174353/questionable-meat to sell they are worth 11g each on my realm atm. If you have skinning on top it can be more.

There are some older alchemy recipes that use fish. A few that come to mind are:

Albino Cavefish (Deepholm) > Deepstone Oil > Vial of the Sands
Pygmy Oil (WotlK) as mentioned above, used in some recipes and skilling up
in Classic zones (STV e.g.) Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper, used for skilling up and recipes.
Note sure if the Glassfin (?) used to make invis. potion in Northrend is still useful as there is an invis. potion in BfA.

Apart from the Albino Cavefish I think that if you are just looking to make gold the BfA suggestions above are better, add to them Viper fish from Nazjatar which are used in a feast.

BfA fish sell for anywhere around 6 to 14 g a pop on AH. Viper Fish sell for up to 100g a pop as they are required for feasts too. Personally I fish quite a bit, though no Great Sea Ray when with over 7k fish caught in the past 3 months alone…

It’s something to do while forming groups or waiting for a summon, plus I’ve never ever bought buff food, ever. Like to make my own.
