Is gender bending canon? 🤔

Yes, it is.

Comedy answer: Yes it is. I mean that Potion Exists.

Less Comedy answer: Not sure how the various Species in game would take such a thing.

Bleak Answer: It would be pretty grim, if forcing a potion down someones neck could change their gender, especially if the state had a regular supply of potions, and needed more children to be born because their species was short on numbers (Like just about every Species in WoW is) We’re talking baby factories grim.

I mean even overlooking that ‘Handsmaid’s tale’ aspect of grim, it is still pretty bleak, if a person genuinely thought they were the other gender, and there was a wonder potion that could make that real, that means that in order to keep their perceived identity of themselves, they would have to constantly make huge amounts of money in order to keep stocked up on said potions, if they were poor, they would have to live in misery knowing that the rich could afford it, if they were well off, they would be flickering between the two, and if they were rich, fine. Until their Alchemist starts upping the prices, seeing how much it means to you, or starts asking for favours/political influence.

In short, its not the same as Trans in our world, which whilst a lengthy process, is a permanent one. Only Potions can do it in WoW, and that is -very- dependent upon external factors…

So yes, it is canon, via that one potion. And that is a Pandora’s Box few would want to open.

And magic.
And titans
And old gods.

Still pretty bleak though…

How the hell do you bend a gender?

Drop a soap and let the gender pick it up while in prison.

Your post… describes America?? Or many places before the advent of public healthcare?

And quite apart from transitioning in our world potentially involving something like hormone replacement therapy, which is dependent on regular medication, it is wild to be to assume that potion would inevitably take the races of Azeroth to a bleak Handmaid’s Tale world. I cannot sufficiently ephasise what an absolute non sequitur that is.

Anyway, there’s no reason why it wouldn’t be a thing, with or without magic.

perhaps…

Not…really? I mean we have had public healthcare in most European countries for quite some time now, and even so, Trans is not a simple procedure you just see your doctor about and they go “Oh, sure, we can sort that”

I know about this, and regular medication is not the same as being dependent on someone having went and grinded down flowers in a world that technically is now under lockdown by the forces of the Light. Medication uses resources available on our world, as the only one we know.

That is because you are thinking in terms of -our- world. Humans are not at risk of dying out. We’ve not been 90% eradicated, or exiled from another planet, or had bipedal pirhana folk kill many of us, The circumstances of Azeroth bear absolutely no relation to those on Earth when it comes to such things.

That is in fact, the opposite of a non sequitur,

Depends, do you mean -presenting- as the opposite gender, or actually fully transitioning to the opposite gender?

‘Presenting’ would be tricky. Male Orcs and Female Orcs do not look like the same species, Male Draenei and Female Draenei do not look like the same species, Male Trolls and Female Trolls do not look like the same species, Male Worgen and Female Worgen do not look like the same species. Male Tauren and Female Tauren do not look like the same Species.

The Gender Dysmorphia is insane in WoW, Oh, I forgot another one, Male Forsaken and Female Forsaken. So either that is a thing, or all the models in game are wrong.

It can be done, to an extent. My Human female footman pretended to be a boy when she signed up, she was a lanky lass and late developer. I couldn’t do the same with Janda’zin, my Darkspear Witch Doctor. Why? Because Female Trolls look so different they may as well be a separate species. There is -no- way he could disguise himself as one.

To clarify here, this is not trans bashing. I have a very dear cousin to me who is going FtM Trans, I get it, I understand it. I really do, and anyone who thinks that men dressing as women, and women dressing as men is a modern fad really, really needs to start reading their history. I’d suggest starting right from the beginning of human recorded history.

Thing is, That’s Earth History, and we have only one Sentient and Sapient race on the planet. Azeroth is -so- culturally different, we wouldn’t be able to comprehend how it works properly.

We’re not, this would be a ridiculous departure from the relatively cartoony world that Blizzard has set up for the most part.

Not sure how you extract “forced pregnancy factories for the sake of rebuilding population” from a joke item, my dude.

Oh fine then, go nuts with your Stormwind jokery. My apologies for trying to answer a question seriously, I should have known better, it being the weekend.

But why…

As elaborated already…

Yeah, it’s doable within the setting.

Should you do it though is the better question?

If it’s just for humour, meh. There are countless cartoon or comedy episodes where X character gets their gender flipped for a day just for the sake of comedic relief. And nothing deep or serious is meant by it. I’ve witnessed it a few times and it’s always been just for a laugh and it’s all done and dusted in a few minutes. I don’t really care if it’s done this way.

If it’s either done constantly, for ERP purposes or in an often botched attempt at trying to make darker implications… Alarms in the distance
