Is Imac M1 ok to play?

Hello, I would like to know if someone have already try to run wow on an iMac M1 16go, and if it is better than an MacBook Air M1 ( I mean playable at 60fps in a good level of graphisme)
ty

Both would perform pretty much identical unless MBA would be in a hot place an throttle. I would say base M1 chip is not enough for smooth gameplay. The FPS will drop to like 30 FPS in mass combat or when lots of particle/spell effects are happening.

ok so definitely not a good go :frowning:
thanks for the answer

Im sorry but this had been said before:

You can´t game on a Mac, they r in no way build for that.

You can (WoW only) if you buy the expensive Mac Studio. On NA forums some just rushed to buy them “just” to play WoW on a mac

Nonononononononono!

I play WoW on my new Macbook Pro with M1 Max chip. It works better then on my ryzen 7 with GTX 2070 Super…

Some bugs yes but thats normal. I hope they will fix the little bugs…

Short: yes yo can play with it but check your chip first (tests etc.)

why would anyone game on a mac?its a pc for music end video edition…not gaming.

wanna gaming get a intel/nvidia/ssd m2.

Filthy mac gamer!

Can I ask if you’re using a separate monitor w your MacBook Pro and if so, what size/resolution?

i’m shifting from an old 2015 iMac, but the resolution is huge: 5120 x 2880 and I’m struggling to imagine anything worse (I work from home on my computer all day) - so wondering what is good?

thanks

S

You won’t get a solid 60 FPS experience without lower the render resolution and setting most settings to low.

Ifris is not really correct here. S/he doesn’t seem to understand the differences between the M1 processor variants.

A MacBook Pro M1 has a higher-end variant of the base M1 processor so it can drive the WOW at better graphics settings.

An iMac with an 8-core GPU will be able to drive WOW but not on the highest settings. If you want to game on a Mac I’d suggest you either accept the low-end M1’s cannot drive WOW at high graphics settings or look to one of the ‘Pro’ machines, or a MacStudio if your budget stretches that far.

I play on an ultrawide display at 720p render scale with AMD FSR 1.0 on a mac mini with m1 16gb ram.
You can play it on an m1 imac and the 16gb is a good idea. WoW can take 7gb of RAM on my mac mini. But the more you spend the better the graphics quality.
It will certainly play decently.
Never mind the wincel trolls, they have no life.

I think you should look in the mirror before spouting nonesense.

Hi i have a iMac 24" 16gb mem 256 ssd but 7-core gpu ], i play wow but the i don’t like the temp’s i get i have see 83c is there a different in temp’s the 7 -core with the 8- core?

83C is fine. When it gets to 100-110C is where it starts to throttle and lose performance.

8-core GPU would run the game at a slightly higher FPS and use a bit more power so more heat. What you can do to limit resource usage (and temps sometimes) is to set the in-game FPS limit to your display refresh rate (if it’s not set already).
