Of course there’s concerns such as lag and certain differing laws in EU vs NA that would need to be addressed, but I feel like the two versions of the game are similar enough that they could be integrated surely? Like off the top of my head I have no idea what’s different about playing the game on NA vs playing the game on EU other than prices of a game token. Many other competitive games including overwatch give you the option to queue into in different regions such as NA and OCE so why not WoW?
Is it just impossible to transfer player data between the two version of the game? I know you can’t transfer account data currently but I wonder if it is even doable as a service? I just think that giving the player the option to select that they can also queue into NA/OCE regions for raids/instances/keys/battlegrounds/arenas would be nice, especially since its important now more than ever not to divide the playerbase as it is- the more you are able to play with friends from different realms as well as see the places you are walking around in look populated, the more positive people will feel about the future of the game.
In overwatch u disconnect from the game between every game so ur data is outside the game, which means its just tunneling it based on which u choose each time
WoW ur permanantly connected so u would be looking at a regional permanant mega server to sustain such a thing, and even with the layering and phasing WoWs engines csnt handle it.
Yeah I imagine if it was that easy they would have done it by now, but was curious if it was even possible. I know Ion a while back did say “never say never” when asked that question but didn’t seem to suggest it was very high up on their priority with the cost and time it would take to sort out.
However, I was able to play with people from NA on DF beta with the option to import my character from EU realm, so going halfway and introducing a tournament realm with events for all players to connect to would be quite fun as a halfway house.
Its 7 hours earlier in NA, so when we sleep they play. With the exception of a few nightowls that play wow. When we are playing they are in school/working.
Now factor in everyone who works during evenings or nights, and how that affects their day/night activity schedule. You will see fewer players during off-peak hours, but not as few as you imagine.
5 hr difference from NY to London for example, East coast USA is 6 hours behind most of mainland Europe and weekends are a thing. There would be a fair amount of overlap and would mean there there are always players and queues running on ‘off peak’ times where you can be sitting in a BG for 20 mins before a queue pops. NA and OCE already play together and they have a significantly bigger gap in time and that’s not even factoring people who have moved but play on realm still or people who work night shifts.
thats likely because, if WoW doesnt plan to shut down in the next few expansions, blizzard will prolly have to look into maybe a extended down time for the game to replace its engine, theres only so much coding its going to survive and its shown cracks.
so with a new engine it maybe something at that point they’ll implement during that investment.
