Is it possible to mute specific abilities/sounds?

I mostly play Protection Warrior and Outlaw Rogue and the constant “shwing shwing shwing” sounds is killing me. I guess they’re supposed to be sword sounds?? Honestly it’s just a constant string of shwings… :headstone:

If you play Protection Warrior or Outlaw Rogue you probably know what I mean.

I have to mute the game entirely to play it, and that’s not so good.

Is it possible to mute specific abilities/sounds and how?

Thanks for any help

Yes, it is possible.

It used to be quite easy, until the devs made it harder in 8.2.

The basic method isto call the MuteSoundFile(number) APi function.

The original addon was Mute Annoying WoW Sounds, but that kind of lost steam after the change.

I do see an addon

https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/mutesoundfile

which seens to provide a wrapper/framework for you to specify which sounds you want muted.

To find the numeric IDs of those sounds, I would suggest a general google, combined with Wowhead, which does organize all sounds and other WoW entities by number. For example, here’s the sound for a Rogue’s Stealth, ID 3325

Thank you it kinda worked. :flushed:

I had to mute a huge list of sounds with the prefix “1h_sword_hit_…”
