Is it so weird to greet people?

So the time has come for somethign MAGNIFICENT, Timewalking, even tough MoP dungeons are far from my favorite, they are pretty bad compated to say Wod, Legion, Cata, TBC, Only classic dungeons are worse really, but i get distracted.

The Time has come for Timewalking. We go into a group and obviously i say, Goodevening everyone! Happy new year! :-).

Dead Scilence you could hear a pin drop. The tank just starts pulling and nothing happens. I found this weird, so i say again, Excuse me but Happy new year!, You’re suposed to say something in return. I was only slightly annoyed. But nothing, Absolutely nothing. 3 Min later ‘’ You have been removed from the group’’

Is it so damn weird to say Hello to people?

People mostly seem to communicate on other platforms these days. I will usually greet those who greet me but I don’t expect much conversation with random strangers who are just grouped up for a dungeon. Some can be good fun though but not everyone is chatty. Some just want to get whatever they are doing, over and done with.

I always join every pug by saying “hello temporary friends”

Today someone in Timewalk answered “20 minute friends”

So I told him “We can wipe a little and make it 40”

And then there was the usual silence… :frowning:

Not weird to say it the first time but kinda rude the second time, no one owes you a hi, happy new year or any kind of chat and if they don’t wanna respond to your greeting then leave it alone don’t be rude to them.

Personally I wouldn’t have kicked you but I would have eye rolled at my computer.

Then again I probably wouldn’t have noticed your greeting tbh because I am that vacant

I always say hello at start, and thanks for the run in the end. Imagine kicking someone for talking, that’s just weird

Lot of folk may also just have instance chat in a different window and miss it, I know I do because usually people in LFG rarely have anything worthwhile to say these days.

My guess is most people are antisocial these days they just wanna complete the run and never talk to you again and I get it some of them are on discord but still people should have the basic manners to say hello back to somebody or is how was your day evil thing to say nowadays.

I don’t think everybody is anti social. I think everybody thinks that everyone else is anti social and so they just minimize the amount of communication with strangers.

Also, in the English wow, there’s a language barrier issue. The other ones in the group could be unable to speak English.

Well that was my second guess on the situation and I agree on this so much because it is what it is and I am happy you bring this fact to light.:+1:

I’m one of those player who doesn’t talk much (or at all) in LFG chat.
As the first poster already said, some people just want to finish the dungeon to get their loot or badges and queue again to find again other strangers.

I don’t defend the fact that those players kick you for saying ”Hi”, I always reply to greetings.
People are not force to interact with you although is one of the main features of a MMO.
It’s not related to being antisocial; I think is has to do more with ‘why bother’, some players don’t like small chats and the probability that those players will never see you again is pretty high.

Mhm, I am struggling a little with this.

I always do a /hi at the start & /ty at the end of the dungeon.
Occasionally I’ll hit a group that’s up for some bants during the run.
Although few & far between, these runs are fun.

People on forums: OH I ALWAYS SAY HELLO!!! Otherwise would be nothing but extremely rude and should be bannable offense.

Reality:

I truly believe that people on forums DO say that hi, just the fact they write on forums shows they are social in the way of talking to people. I also say always “hi” at start and “ty for the group” at end, and even more weird if someone talks to me i reply. But i do mostly only lowbie dungeons for leveling purposes.

People can be real pricks that way. I too usually greet people when it comes to dungeons, and when I don’t reply it’s usually because the tank is usually already pulling and I’m too focused on making sure on one dies, and normally I also tell everyone “thanks for the run”, or a /farewell at the end of the instance.
Sometimes people reply, sometimes they don’t, and at worst they pull a move like what they did to you.

Can you tell us more about that part because this doesn’t happen just out of juxx even with what you described. did you insult them? did you leave yourself? whats behind it?

I normally say hi but nothing beyond that.
Its a dungeon, stopping to chat just slows things down.

I’m not English but I like play in English realms even to improve my learning of it.

Say ‘hello’ or ‘hi’ ‘howdy’ when grouping not take me much time and it’s a form of respect to the fellas players, though strangers.

I know that my English is poor, sometimes I couldn’t understand some threads and being me essentially shy I’ll stay silent, but no for toxicity, only because I am ashamed to speak a bad English, just that…

The paradox of connection we are actually more disconnected nowadays :upside_down_face: !

Yeah, it’s hella weird.

When I join a group, I just want that horrid experience to be over with as quickly as possible, as do many players, talking isn’t conducive to that.

The only reason why players join groups is that they are forced, no one wants to talk to you, you in general, not you specifically.

Blizzard view on this is completely different which is why they keep forcing us into groups.
