I was having this arguement with a friend.
Who is a more powerful mage? I was led to believe that Khadgar is more powerful because he can master all the elements and has Atiesh.
My friend says that Jaina is the most powerful mage, greater than Khadgar, as shown by the tidal wave she almost used to wipe out Orgrimmar, but her downfall is she can only use Frost.
Jaina is by far stronger shes a magical prodigy and the chosen apprentice of Archmage Antonidas who him self was also a prodigy after mist of pandaria she also wields a staff infused with the power of Ra’den but Khadgar is more versatile he don’t relay on being a one trick pony like jaina does which is both a strength and weakness
that said their both toddlers playing with fire compared to Queen Azshara who is said to be the most powerful mortal mage like ever it’s possible that Guardian Aegwynn could have given her a run for her money but who knows it’s not possible to know how much of Medivh’s power was the mad titan and how much he gained from Aegwynn passing the mantle of guardian of trisfal to him
Khadgar has a stay and listen dialogue with jaina in sl that makes me worry that something is wrong with Khadgar he was talking like a person putting his affairs in order before kicking the bucket
Jaina has had more screentime of visually grandiose spells, while Khadgar was the apprentice of Medivh and ultimately one of the people that defeated him. What your friend is missing is that the power to flood Orgrimmar wasn’t Jaina’s, but came from the Focussing Iris artefact.
I agree with Lutia tho. Azshara is the greatest mage to ever walk Azeroth by a margin of not even close. (Guardian isn’t exactly a single mage thing. So not counting them)
Eh, Khadgar is insanely talented himself and also has the benefit of being current custodian of Kharazan. Not to mention being apprentice to the Guardian, a title far grander than apprentice of an Archmage.
I would say that, unless author fiat says otherwise, Khadgar should be stronger than Jaina in any situation without outside interference.
actually if you knew his backstory you wouldn’t say that he was basically a spy sent by the kirin tor to keep an eye on Medivh who didn’t want him as an apprentice in the first place also the title of guardian is worthless without the power of the council of trisfal to back it up the reason Medivh was powerful is not because him self was a great magi but because sargeras the mad titan had taken over his body and he got power from his mother from the mantle of the guardian so what could he teach as a result Khadgar has never in the novels been a power house
khadgar likes to use clever tactics rather then raw str thats when facing with deathwith he uses magic that unscrewed the screws on deathwing’s plates
To be fair, Khadgar’s position near the top is pretty much “just because” as well. So he spent one year as the student of a guy who never had to study magic, because he magically understood it, and that’s supposed to explain much of anything? I mean, we can argue that Khadgar being chosen as Medivh’s pupil shows just how special he was, so that we don’t need to point out that his teacher wasn’t much of a teacher… but if we do that, we can just as easily point to Jaina being the chosen pupil of the Kirin Tor leader Antonidas. And no, Khadgar’s life experience shouldn’t be the relevant factor, when it isn’t relevant with much longer-lived peoples whose mages suck compared against the human elite…
They are powerful mages, because they are protagonists of more/more important stories than most. And that’s really all there is to it.
For some stupid reason all prominent elf mages are either evil or dead. The humans get the most screentime. That is how blizzard writes their stories. Sadly.
Shadowlands Jaina is the strongest character in the wow multiverse.*
It also made her insufferable in shadowlands.
Even in the rescue jaina quest you’re not really rescueing her, you’re just kind of waking her up from her nap and reminding her that there’s more to do then sleep in a gloomy tower.
*Satire
As to who is actually stronger, I’m inclined to say Khadgar by experience, but ever since Shadowlands I have no idea how to judge power anymore.
That one has always been somewhere between questionable and complete nonsense, which only serves to prop up the humans. (To be fair that’s been the bulk of WoW’s storytelling at this point…)
