Is Legion Classic coming? - A player who started playing in 2021

In fact for me it was more painful the SL grind. Probably because im a mog addicted.
Dunno if im watching legion with pink glasses but i dont remember the grind so terrible: months ago i had the same exchange witn another guy here about the same situation.

I quit Legion for good during season 5.
I’ve heard people say it was easier to catch up by the end.

The first half of Legion though? Forget having alts unless you were unemployed and willing to dedicate several hours per week to each of your characters to keep up with Artifact Research and AP.

Anima was entirely optional and for cosmetics/QOL. AP grind was entirely mandatory due to the massive, and I mean massive power gains. Originally 54 points, getting to certain thresholds took a very considerable grind unless you wanted to be constantly behind the curve, which actually killed a lot of guilds.

People went from WOD where you could have a job, a social life and raid Mythic on equal footing to competing with players who were running Maw of Souls 20x every single day to farm AP and legendaries and pulling miles ahead, to those who would also reroll because Blizzard hard-coded in an “off” switch for bad luck protection after (I think 3?) legendaries, causing top players to play multiple alts of the same class until they got the correct legendary to main.

It wasn’t until the end of Legion that they made the AP grind less brutal for power gains and made it possible to buy legendaries, only to repeat the entire mistake with BFA.

yeah. i rermember. but probably i totally understimate this grind cuz i care more mogs than power.

It could be fun for people who have missed it but I wouldn’t play it again. Too many grinds + things to do in order hall, questlines + rng legendary. Trash PvP with templates.

Also that expansion feels too artificial and fake, quest dialogues etc idk. I love artifact weapon appearences though they are still useful and cool for almost all classes.

Let’s not forget about Titanforging, where a world quest item could beat your “un-forged” raid item, and where looting a normal, non-Titanforged item felt worse than looting nothing at all.

The Shadowlands cosmetic grind was huge, but you could divert your time/resources into the stuff you wanted, and you were never in any rush to farm it. You can still farm it right now for example.

Power gains are different since content is seasonal and falling behind the curve can make playing the game a misery, and if you like to play and compete well goodbye if you fall behind because you will never catch up. That aspect is the same now, but it was 10x worse back then because a lot of these systems had not been fleshed out.

The vault? Yeah you didn’t get one, you got a weekly cache with a random item. Titanforging (which I had forgotten) played a huge part, as did getting random socket procs. Getting your correct legendaries could be 20% dps, and you may not see them for months… And the AP grind, well that was PER WEAPON, so if you wanted to play an offspec, you had to grind that too.

Legion was unbelievably degenerate for grinding until near the end where it didn’t matter, and BFA did the whole thing again and also didn’t fix it until the end.

You only have to wait for 3 more classic expansions to end. From 2019 to 2024 they had 5 years, so I guess in 5 years you might have a chance to play legion classic! XD 5 More and we might reach Dragonflight classic!

I love the way they’ve done renown in DF. It’s literally perfect short of that pointless big button on the minimap. Just use the reputations panel.

It provides tons of rewards, it unlocks quests over time, the rewards are not mandatory. Some give a little power but never a great deal unless you don’t like instanced content, in which case it will give you some upgrades. So I’d you don’t like it, just ignore it and you’ll be fine.

On top of that it doesn’t overstay its welcome. It gives you a little wind at your back of you fall behind yet isn’t very firmly capped.

It’s honestly incredible to me how something so busted in SL could just have s few tweaks made to its reward system and it’s just fixed.

I literally have nothing negative to say about it. I haven’t heard any complaints about it either. Few disinterested people, but that goes with any system. That’s alright. I hope they keep it.

Can’t wait for Classic Shadowlands :+1:

I am waiting for Legion and Mop tbh. I was hoping hey would skip cata + wod

My only gripe with it is that, for something that takes so long to grind, it’s a shame you’re basically only restricted to World Quests.
I wish there were more ways to earn rep, even if it was suboptimal and slower.

The way i see it, Cataclysm was the point of no return, either they do Cataclysm and onwards, or they stop at Wotlk, and they chose to move on to Cataclysm, to me that indicates, they will cycle through all the old expansions as “classic” realms, there is no way they will do a less popular expansion like Cataclysm and not a do popular expansions like MoP and eventually Legion.

Sure, I can go with that.

But for me it’s one of those things where yes, it’s possible to improve it, but I also can’t really think of anything that’s really bad about it. If that makes sense? It just works.
