As the game has expanded and there are now seven or eight expansions, should FTP be raised to at least 35 so a player can do quests that is more challenging. Compromise can be made no Death Knight no Demon Hunter, no flying and locked for post Cataclysm zones. Panda, WoD for wxample
You are already locked out of Classic era/tbc. So a quick change of heart and let us play the revamped classic, tbc and wotlk zones to their max lvl.
I think Blizzard have been more than generous with the new Chromie time.
Level 20s can play any expansion, or all the expansions, except the current one. That’s a big improvement for them on what they used to be able to do.
And, thanks to scaling /spit, no quests are challenging any more. They’re all the same. They’ve all been homogenised into lifelessness.

For real, I hate it when File Transfer Protocol is locked behind levelling.

Considering that lv20 now is comparable to lv40 pre 9.0 they already doubled the amount.
But being honest I would like the cap to lv30 to try tbc/WotLK raids
I also agree they are currently more than generous enough, people can see what it’s like, they don’t even have to buy the latest expansion if they want to try a bit more, they can pay for a sub and try everything up to the current expansion.

You say that, but when you compare the free trial of wow to it’s now biggest competitor it is extremely low value.

Really? I didn’t know that FFXIV allowed you to play all content except the latest expansion for as long as you want?
Maybe I should give it another try.
If you’re comparing theoretical max amount of content you can do on both free trials, I think you’ll find FF14 still wins out (with ease). Even in that extremely contrived and disingenuous example of max possible.
How is it contrived?
You can play WoW forever, for free.
You can play all content in WoW except current expansion, for free.
What does the other one offer for free? I’m actually on their site now trying to find out.
Wrong, they can’t do for example Antorus the burning throne. That is level 45.
The other offers the entire base game, and it’s first expansion with a coherent story structure the entire way through and the ability to get the vast majority of ‘classes’ to 60 out of 80 levels. With a whole host of side content that covers easily upwards of 300 hours.
and if we’re saying that on both trials people will 100% the content avaliable, then dear gods the competitor is easily beyond 1000 hours of playtime.
I think you’re right about the Legion raids. I think.
But am I correct when I read that the FFXIV free trial is limited to 30 days?
It’s for eternity, you can play it free as long as you want. The only caveat is that once you buy the game the free trial is ended. So once you buy it you can’t let the sub expire then continue playing for free. (for clarity)

The website’s a confusing mess but it’s now level 60 and all of Heavensward. So a few expansions back. Not sure how long you get to play for free though. I signed up for it and don’t recall seeing a time limit.
That’s good to know. At least now I can take my time deciding whether it’s worth becoming a bunnyman or not.
I should probably add something about the topic. Yes, I think level 20 is too low and the free portion should be higher so that you actually get to play with most, if not all of a class’s skills.

But I see in the FAQ:
Will I lose my 30 day Free Trial Period by upgrading to a paid service account? No, 30 day Free Trials never expire while they are active.
I think that’s referencing the starter edition that comes with 30 days free game time. I know it doesn’t expire as one of my mad lads of a friend capped all the jobs he could to 60 before he bought the game.

I think free to play level 20 is more than enough =]
they could raise f2p to 59 and you’d still be excluded from 99.99% of content
The marketing site states no restrictions on playtime.
Check out their Support site.
As you say, it is a confusing mess. And I sometimes
at Blizzard’s site! I think I’ll cut them a break in future.
