So I’ve been maining Outlaw since Legion and I really enjoy it. Though you can say that it’s RNG based, as long as you don’t get the one and only bad buff from Roll The Bones, you can get amazing results in both pve and pvp. You have the arguably best AoE and for pvp you have quite the cooldowns to play with.
This way, I can do amazing dps in m+, but other times I sink to the bottom of the charts. Sometimes I take on higher geared players, other times I die from lower geared players. I’ve had a few encounters with sin rogues and honestly they kind of scare me, to the point of feeling conflicted and questioning outlaw over sin/sub. It may be that I’m just inconsistent in terms of skill, but I just want to hear your opinion.
In all areas, is outlaw just as competitive as sin/sub?
outlaw should be fine, very generally for both pve and pvp i’d say assa>outlaw>sub. of course it’s situational though.
for pvp i think outlaw is better than sub, mostly because of 90s blind, but neither is good.
and it sounds like you’re talking about 1v1s or similar when you’re talking about assa. assa crushes all rogues (including other assa) when there’s no healer. if the assa rogue ever kidney vendettas they will kill you, it doesn’t matter if you trinket cloak evasion, you will still die second kidney, and often before that as well.
but yeah assa is generally the most powerful spec in pve and basically always in pvp, while simultaneously being the easiest out of the three. that’s why everyone plays assa. you get the most reward for the least effort.
Outlaw is the best AoE spec by a mile and a half for rogue, and it also has the best sustain damage. As you say, it can be a little reliant on RNG for good buffs, but it has a greater variety of viable traits than the other specs, at least from my experience, so there’s a little more freedom in armour picks.
Grappling hook is better mobility than shadowstep thanks to choosing where it goes, the rotation feels really fluid, and the single target damage is still pretty good, especially if you stack deadshot and/or ace up your sleeve, which makes BtE crit for an absurd amount.
Plus you’re a pirate. That automatically makes you 100% cooler than any other spec.
Yeah Outlaw does well, you can do everything without lacking much just putting effort on learning and getting the right gear. Is not very much easier than Sin, in fact you have to master more about Outlaw than Sin, which can easily do a bit better on average (but hey, Outlaw have it’s cool things that Sin can only dream of), but you can get use of a lot of sweet spots from Outlaw, as AoE damage which is plainly superior and helps a lot in M+.
It’s kind of in a better state than in Legion, most things got fixed since then, you can play it without having to care that much about RNG as usually people happen to tell. (Yeah, RtB is still kinda fuky, but not that much as previous iterations).
