Is playing wow on a virtual machine authorized?

Hi there,

Thinking of buying a new mac but the WoW client is awful and I’d try to play it in a Win10 Virtual Machine?
Does it break some rule and can lead to ban?

Sympathy

PS : no I cannot have both a mac (for work) and a PC

I would imagine the performance is poor. What is it about the Mac client that you find so awful ? I haven’t found much difference between the 2 clients other than obvious hardware differences, and playing on a Win10 VM won’t fix that.

Hi,

Maybe it’s no longer the case but I played the mac client some time ago (10years :p) and found it way more buggy and ended playing on bootcamp.

“Way more buggy” is highly subjective. In my experience of running the client on both OS’s I wouldn’t agree with that. Once you’re in the game there’s little difference.

I have guildmembers who play on a modern Mac with an M1 or M2 processor and find the experience, including raiding, to be no worse than their Windows counterparts.

Nobody can give cast-iron guarantees, but I simply would not go down the emulation path, no matter how good the emulator is, for something like this. YMMV.

Thanks for the heads up, i’ll give it a try (to mac) no matter what but i’d love to compare the solutions without getting banned :stuck_out_tongue:

So i’ll wait for on official response.

You need to pass input to VM on software level from the host system and software inputs have been bannable ever since they cut down on multiboxers who were using specialized SW to duplicate and distribute inputs between clients.

You won’t get one.

Blizzard have a policy of NOT confirming if something is bannable or not. Especially 3rd party programs. If you think about it, you will realise why.

However, it is clearly stated in the ToS that cloud computing services or similar, are bannable (because they had an issue with nVidia including them on their gaming service without authorization).

I am not sure if they would view playing on a virtual machine, in a similar manner.
