I’ve been reviewing DPS rankings across different websites, and while I feel like I perform decently in current content, the rankings for Retribution Paladins don’t look too promising.
According to Wowhead, for raiding, we’re ranked at the very bottom. In Mythic+, we rank a bit higher, but we’re still among the lowest. Icy Veins paints a similar picture, placing us 22nd in M+ and 23rd in raids.
Personally, it doesn’t bother me too much because I enjoy playing Retribution and stick with it, regardless of tuning. I typically perform well since I know the class and its rotations by heart, but these rankings don’t look great.
I’m unsure if the changes in 11.0.5 have been factored into these rankings or how much they’ll benefit us, but what are your thoughts? In my opinion, our single-target damage could use some attention. I wouldn’t mind seeing a ~25% buff to Templar’s Verdict - it just doesn’t hit as hard as its counterparts.
One thing ret has always been really good at is just surviving. Where a healer is having to channel like mad to keep something like a Mage alive. a paladin is just sitting there not caring.
we also have some half decent utility and I think our AoE at the moment is “fine”. The question is our single target and that just needs to be buffed up quite a bit. Im not too worried about M+ in coming weeks, especially as I often have a pocket healer to queue with… but I wouldnt say no to a bit more damage from tuning over the next few weeks
P.S Frick the rankings, play what you find fun. It only really matters if you are really really interested in something like doing the MDI or just pushing really high keys. Im gunna try for 20s this season and ret is good enough at least for that. Especially as the class you enjoy playing is the class you will always do the most output on.
