The main Void Elf racial ability is Spatial Rift which has kinda long cd at 3 minutes and it lets you teleport a short distance, but its not instante. You shoot some slow moving void magic up to 30yards in front of you and if you activate the ability again in the next 5 seconds you will be teleported to the location of that void thing.
I cant really find many uses for that spell. It sounds really cool but I barely use it and Id really love to use it more, so I was wondering if I am using it wrong.
It’s clearly not ment to be used to travel faster as it moves around the normal running speed. It can only be used to travel distances if you are slowed or dazed while running from the enemies.
I am a warrior so maybe thats also the problem. I usually want to be as close to my enemy as possible, and I guess this spell is more usefull if you want to distract the enemy, or get away from your enemy. So like you can send your Spatial Rift in one direction and you keep running in the other direction.
It can also be used in battlegrounds when you activate the ability and run off a clif so you activate it again to come back up. I as a warrior can for example activate the ability than use heroic leap and pick up my flag and than reactivate the ability and travel a long distance and probably distract my enemies.
I just feel this is a really cool ability and I would like to know how to use it better. I just feel as this ability only has some really niche uses, so its not really as usefull as it could be if it was changed a bit.

Maybe for a caster it is useful but personally never found any use for it.
Hahaha i don’t know!
Whenever i tried to see if i can use it somewhere i just lost any hope.I have it in bars somewhere but …what…
Rarely ever used it during my short stint as a Void Elf.
Its useless tbh… Too slow.
It’s quite weird to use, so after trying it once I removed it from my bars.
It would be much better if instead of 5 seconds, the portal lasted for a minute. Then you can place it in advance, and just port to it, much like a warlock does with Demonic Circle. Could even be split to two spells like it.
I actually love it, but I’m the kind of guy who enjoys opportunities to make flashy plays, like some of the ones you described. It’s people who expect it to compare to Blink/Sprint who are disappointed.
Absolutely useless.
One of the worst racials in the game.
On the plus side, void elves have other racials that are both cool and functional.

I love it in PvP, you can troll alot of people with it. Use it, go in the opposite direction, then port back and laugh at all the confused melee. Use it before you jump down from something, watch them follow you and just port back up etc. Wish it was a 2 minute cooldown though. It’s a fun ability, especially if you’re a shadow priest.

You can use it to skip one part of the corridor to the Ardenweald quarter and the oil fountains in the mechagon quarter in DoS.
You can use it to teleport while carrying a part of the Helm of Domination, while most other movement abilities of the classes don’t work anymore.
Well, that’s two examples I noticed, but I’m certain there are lots more. But yeah, generally it could either use a lower cd or a higher traveling speed to make it useful in more than exceptional situations.
Well you can also use it in Skyreach dungeon from WoD to skip the round platform where the wind pushes you away from it. But likr those uses are really minimal.
Ah nice one!
But yeah, I mean, compare it to Mole Machine: its not that useful either. My chars all have the guild cloak for teleport to SW and that has a 2/4h cd and I use it maybe once a month. Zandalari fall speed reduction… most classes don’t need that anyway, because they have a skill to mitigate fall damage. Mechagnone “mirror images” are only useful in open world solo content. Nightborne summoning a mail box… useless too in cities with mailboxes around. Maybe less so this expansion, but usually cities had a lot more ot those. Lightforged summoning a forge… well, same story.
It looks less useless if we compare it to other long-cd-ratial-abilities.
Thats true but I believe that racial should be compared with other combat racials like Fireblood from Dark Iron Dwarfs or Darkflight from Worgens
Hm, well our combat racials are entropic embrace (it’s passive yes, but also a flat out dmg buff across all fights) and the other one that makes your casts don’t get a delay when taking dmg. That you don’t notice the latter is just because of your class (same for me, btw, but I also have caster VEs).
Depends on the content you are doing.
It is situationally useful in dungeons and raids, but in those situations it excels due to it being a flat out teleport, instead of being a displacement type of ability. In fights where there is an important mechanic to handle, like the halos on Dausegne, void elves can dodge an additional halo, allowing them to skip on swapping to covenants with mobility abilities to avoid them.
You can also use it to negate knockbacks in a fight. I think on Zul void elves could even use the teleport to drop down the adds that spawned from players into the abyss.
It is not useful in every situation, and that is perfectly fine. Utility abilities are still generally useful in more situations compared to damage boosting abilities (which void elves have one built in by default).
I think for that the drawbacks are an acceptable trade-off for the ability being so strong.
As for its uses I cannot really tell you that, for I do not have a void elf. In PvP it is up to your judgement when the ability should be used. For instanced PvE it is easier to judge if you can dodge something. An example would be Shade of Medivh’s fireball. Technically if you go away far enough when the ability is cast and use Spatial rift you can teleport forward the moment the projectile fires off of the boss and thus dodge the damage it does (atleast you could during Legion, not sure if it is changed now). In general, if there is an ability that does not hit instantly and can be dodged with teleports then you should, since warriors do not have any other way to do that.
For obvious reasons the ability has its drawbacks, that in some cases you require proper timing to make use out of it, otherwise your attempt will fail.
its a meme abiltiy on a 3 min cd. useless
I think they need to rework it a bit. It is useful in PvP, let’s say, you’re carrying a flag in WSG, you use the ability, move in opposite direction with enemies following you, you re-use the ability to teleport far away from them and use other speed buffs to run away as far as possible. I’ve also seen other PvP situations where a mage was 1 vs 2 and they used 2 blinks + that and practically had 3 blinks. In PvE, you’re right, we use it so rarely. Mostly sometimes for escape situations.
I did once use it to escape a quest elite by accident.
The quest asked me to retrieve an item from a chest.
I sent it off so i could get back from the chest quicker.
I opened the chest, took the loot, used the teleport i set up, and escaped a rare
As a death knight in raids, it’s a big damage increase depending on mechanics as you can stay in melee longer than without it, due to otherwise lacking mobility. There’s been a few bosses where I used it to skip a mechanic or to increase uptime.
It’s useful if you actively try finding use for it
