The engineering skill requirement on most engineering items effectively removes the ability to make gold on the items. Usually if a character has engineering and a schematic, they will craft the item themselves. Engineering would be more gold friendly if there would be more items to sell in the Auction House.
Although I must confess that I am relatively new to engineering, and do not know how it can be used for gold making. If someone knows more about gold making with engineering, feel free to elaborate below.
There is not much gold to be made with engineering, some sniper scopes and the occasional mana potion injector. Could have made some gold when everyone needed Adamantite frames fro some quest. And you got the mote extractor for some free motes here and there.
But it has always been a profession not too famous for making money.
There are items needed by players, such as Deadly Blunderbuss (quest item), and certain rods, that is about it to make money with engineering. You can make shells for hunters using guns, or make shells, swap for arrows, otherwise it is for personal use.
Ammo, Scopes, some explosives and parts required for other profession can be made with engineering to sell. U can also collect motes in Outland from clouds.
