Something I have been thinking. Why are there two currencies used to upgrade an item? And why is there a cap on Flightstones?
Why does a +2 in Season 4 still reward the same amount of Flightstones that it did in Season 3, even though it should give as much as last season’s +12 did?
I feel like the upgrade system could be so much better and it kind of feels like a chore. Having it just be based on crests would solve most grievances I have. Anyone else?
I think the upgrade system makes sense and is the best gear system they’ve ever implemented.
I can’t remember a single time where I was affected by the flightstone cap (maybe except for this season with awakened items, where upgrading a 2H weapon went over cap, but then again, it’s upgrading a weapon from 483 to 528 (535), and is not going to happen in a normal season).

I liked Legion gearing better from a ‘fun’ standpoint. Titanforging for me and the way I play the game was a lot of fun. So were Legiondaries - until I got the ones I wanted anyway.
Legion gearing was grim. The RNG of legendaries and RNG of titanforging was not fun at all for me. The strength of gear should be tied to difficulty it’s acquired from, not procs.
One currency would achieve the same goals if they tweaked it a little.
Yes but that is backwards logic I think, and can actually cause issues when you are constantly in need of them. Reupgrading could just use substantially less crests of the same category or whatever crests you have. Solutions aplenty.
The system works beautifully because you dont need more crests. You arent penalised for upgrading anything. Crests are limited. Flightstones are not.
So getting a better item never ends up being a punishment. You can just catch up in level with a trivial replenishable currency.
It would be awful to be set back every time. Take the bullion vendor items. It only costs flightstones for me to catch up. But if it was crests, even at a reduced rate it would eat into your weekly allowance.
Removing flightstones would be bad. Whilst I would love a higher cap, we can just farm them constantly. This inflicts zero penalty when catching back up.
I understand. But are you not required to do extra stuff just to upgrade that gear and get those flightstones? And because they did not update the yield from +2 onwards to be equivalent to +12 onwards in S3, it just seems I need to constantly do other things just to get the flightstones to upgrade my gear. It feels chorey to me.
The entire Flightstone / Crest mechanic is a way for them to make content last longer. It’s the latest in a sea of already drip-feeding ways for Blizzard to not allow players to complete their goals “early” while using the excuse of “we don’t want players to feel that they can’t catch up if they miss one week”.
It is done so ingeniously though. Without it the item that would drop would be of the level that it is now after being fully upgraded. Some people I have spoken to on the matter do not understand it. Everything has been factored in.

Every time i get an item =upgrade it …So i can go to higher difficulty and get the same item with 2 more upgrades so i can further obtain the same item and redo that …
The game is not Anymore Mmorpg . Just a Seasonal game that every 6-8 month you restart you Character from zero with a grand reset …
The upgrade system and the item ilvl difference by each season is close to 30-40 ilvl …
That’s totally messed up . There is no more joy of getting and item or an upgrade from the loot pinata that the game has become .
The pure system of getting an item and actually was a real reward is gone .Right now by the time you are getting in Raids or Mythic + you already overgear the game because that’s how the system work .
Is There any difference in WoW system with any gacha game system ?? None … I’m playing several Gacha games like Soul land and many more …Weekly bonuses that increase you gear power…Do x do increase your gear power… Identical to WoW system .

Currently WoW is more like a Work out game rather than an actual game. And the stupid thing is that you don’t actually get any benefit because with the time gate-Seasonal by the time you are Bis Ilvl you are f…up by needing to change you hard Mythic gear earned and upgraded to the 1st Hc normal Dungeon …
I don’t know what you’re expecting? To never have to change your gear again?
That would literally kill the game faster than anything.
This is an MMORPG and the grind for gear always continues. New content is being released faster now than ever before and I think that’s a good thing. Having new stuff to do is cool.
This is not a game for people who want to be ‘done’ (although you always have the ability to decide for yourself if you’re ‘done’).
I think the gearing system in itself is okish.
Flightstones feel stupid and just arbritary though. There is no reason to have flightstones. They are just limiting if you find an item to replace one with worse stats. Suddenly you have to spend 1.5k flightstones and it feels terrible.
I also think that you need waaaaaaaay too many dungeons to upgrade your stuff. Much worse for alts.
It also stinks that instead of 15 crests you only get 12 crests just for the sake of time sink. It is unnecessary.
I played a lot of dungeons on my shaman and I am still not finished. I think I am still missing another 3 dungeons to upgrade my vault item from this week.
it is just crazy.
For the record, I have run 110 dungeons, funny enough I still have a champion neck on my resto shaman because I never got the same one again even though spaming BH.
110 dungeons is probably 70h play time, more or less and I am not done. that is wild.
and why is that? Because we have too many streamers nowadays who needs to be entertained 12h a day because they don’t have a life
in sense of gearing you can be “done” besides waiting for vault items that is. But you need to spend serious amount of time to at least get stuff upgraded to max, not even talking about BiS stat stuff.
This is why the upgrade system seems to me to be a subtle “chore” that players demanded be kept away from DF. Instead of farming gear, we more often find ourselves now farming crests to upgrade said gear.
I think the idea of it generally is fine, but it is just way too much.
110 dungeons to upgrade the gear and this accounts already several weeks of getting myth track gear to jump some steps.
Half the dungeons would be acceptable and something really has to be done about alts it is really disheartening to log into an alt and see you crappy champ gear and thinking… yeah nope not gonna do that again lol
I can talk for this season. I didn’t like m+ dungeons of this season. Takes long time to finish them and it’s not rewarding. There is not a rare mount or a special item from them. Also items from bullions starts from 1 to 12/14 upgrade. It’s consuming a lot of crests. I think upgrade system is not bad but farming crests is like torture atm.
I am not sure how you get out of flightstones. When you do 1 time the weekly Last hurray you have enough to start with the system and basically from there get more and to the cap. I am never out of them. The crests are the limiting factor.
