Is the wow community more toxic than other gamers?

Hi,

We all know many gamers can be toxic from time to time, it is part of the gameing experience.

Would you argue wow have more toxic players than avarage? I see a lot of harsh language on these forums when people dont agree. I also feel harsh language to new players who struggle with dragonrideing or other things considered simple.

If this is the case, how can the community get better in your opinion? Is some of it beeing triggered from some classes beeing better than others, and blizzard is to blame for poor balancing?

Is the playerbase toxic?
yes

Is it more toxic than the avarage? not sure what the golden standard for toxicity, what is a good example of a default toxic community for scale?

To date League of Legends is probably my most toxic interaction with others.

Overwatch has been awful at times too.

To be honest the worst is always anything player vs player in my experience.

I’m not really sure toxicity comes from lack of balancing.

I think WoW’s biggest issue regarding toxicity is how they let this kind of behaviour proliferate without doing anything to stop it.

Trolls and biggots keep coming back, there’s no real punishment. That lack of consequence sadly discourage people from reporting abusive behaviours.

I might be wrong though. I’ve not played enough other games to state if WoW is more toxic or not. My only interraction with LoL dates back to when I was kicked from the lobby for apparently choosing the wrong hero.

Nah. Just look at games like POE or CS.

WoW have a healthy percentage of real people compared. Not that they represent though.

It’s hard to tell because the majority of players stay well away from the forums.

I doubt that WoW has more toxic players than other games with communication channels available.

In the end it’s an issue that quickly arises when a form of anonimity is granted. We can all hide behind a username, character name or alike. We can say what we want without seeing the physical response on the one we talk to. Or as Mike Tyson said;

Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it

Which is, apart from the fact that violence in any form is never acceptable, quite a fair point.

Back to WoW, I see much more helpful/kind/neutral players than … uhm toxic ones. However, those toxic ones do stand out much more (yey negative bias…) and can more easily influence the whole surrounding and atmosphere.

How we can improve it? Ignore them. Not just by using that button but also by literally ignoring what they say. Let it go, don’t feed the toxic person who has a bad day or just bad manners. They’re not worth it.

there is a big amount of toxic attitude against new players in wow but it’s probably because of game’s age . people don’t accept the fact that you might not know something or not do the same things they’ve done throughout the years. it’s worse in classic tho.

Any game 100% based on PvP is infinitely more toxic than Wow

I don’t know but old school wow community was more toxic then modern retail wow
what we have now is basically a WOW eden

Forums are never a good representation of how toxic the community of one game is.
The WoW-forum mutated long ago into a forum of blindness and stupiditiy, a lot of trolling and “my intrest is super important”- threads.
The WoW-community is not the most toxic i’ve came across, that would be FF14. But i wouldnt say FF14 has a toxic-Community, it just has a “small” group of players which are insane and loud as hell in the forums.
Most toxic communitie there is might be the one of LoL, for a lot of reasons. The souls-community also counts as highly toxic.

WoW is not above the avarage, but it became more toxic since BFA.

The reasons for and what triggers toxicity are many. A lot of them arent even in the game and even more come from group dynamics.

Making thing better is hard, if not impossible. The Blizzard-community is old and has a lot of different typs of players with a massiv potential fo conflicts. Best we and Blizzard can do is to sort out issues of misscommunication, setting clear rules and to take a look in the mirror on ourself. Players need to step out of this mindset of critic and negativity. Blizzard in my opinion needs to work on their communication, if they want (somehow i can understand why they dont want to, but its also kind of a selfmade hole they dug out).

I LOVE this never ending commentator punyelf, defending world of warcraft, and saying LOL and owerwatch community is more toxic then wow :_D

I’ve never had someone say they will sexually assault me because they thought I’m a woman in WoW.

I have had that happen in OW several times on the other hand, lmao.

Simple reasoning for these observations. LoL is free, so the fear of being banned is lower than WoW in which you are paying for. Ok £9 (or £100+, £500+ or £1000s+ if you’ve paid this much) isn’t stopping most from toxic behaviour but amongst millions of people the general scope of behaviour self-restraint goes down for a game you paid nothing for.

And yeah PvP by its nature is pure fuel for toxicity. A very big reason why LoL would be worse, I agree.

Ok as someone, who has played various games in his life, and playing wow very casually since 2019 on and off, I gotta say, that from what I’ve seen, there are way more toxic communities. Wow has many boomers/millenials, and they are usually very mature and friendly in the end. The most toxic people, that I’ve seen though were in classic wow, and that’s probably, because they wanna relive their childhood mentally or something, idk lol. LFG is also very toxic though, but every game, where you play with randoms, and where you have a losing condition, is toxic

Not anymore. Nowadays the toxicity is very subtle, and if you aren’t good at league, you won’t even notice. The most toxic thing you will usually see is someone mentally collpasing (They will spam slurs, etc, but you would probably feel sorry for the person losing his mind), and then getting permabanned, or your jungler stealing CS from your lane to show you, how much more worth the ressources are in his hands lol. Back in the day though, when I was in middle school, league probably used to be the most toxic game on the market, I agree.

Lots of shooters, dota, classic wow are the most directly toxic nowadays in my experience with people directly insulting/bullying others from what I’ve observed., but tbh, I don’t care about toxicity personally. I just mute/block.

I think modern wow is way more toxic than league nowadays in LFG, because it’s less moderated in terms of griefing the group, or tricking the system with hidden insults. However, modern wow doesn’t come close in toxicity to what league was back in the day, and it’s also way less toxic than Classic wow, or some older shooters.

i mean this is gaming problem overall.
i would say dota is 3x more toxic in compared to all together.

If I had to rank World of Warcraft in terms of toxicity, it would be my #3 most toxic game experience, with League of Legends not even in my top-5.

First and second place slots would go to Dota 2 and World of Tanks respectively.

Dota 2 has such a vitriolic and toxic community surrounding the game that I’m convinced Valve need to divest half of the Pro Circuit prize pool into giving anybody with less than 5500 Behaviour Score some kind of professional help. Literally ban their accounts until they take anger management courses.

It’s been that bad for ages, even since the DotA Allstars days. I still remember someone kicking me from an -apem pub game on Bnet, adding me to a global banlist and telling me to off myself, all because I built Mekansm on Dragon Knight.

World of Tanks, at least on the European servers, is a similarly bad cesspool. It is shocking how much the community takes a pay-to-win tank battle simulator where premium vehicles cost anywhere from ÂŁ15 to ÂŁ100 seriously.

Case-in-point, I once lost a match after trying to drive my IS-4 up the hill on Himmelsdorf. Heavy tanks move very slowly so by the time I reached the top of the hill everyone was already dead and the enemy had capped our base.

This prompted a tonne of abusive in-game and direct messages towards me, the worst being someone telling me that they wish my parents would die of cancer on Christmas Day.

SC2 ladder is pretty terrible, but I love that game anyway.

Yes

Atleast in most games you got to look for trouble ( as in playing competetive gamemodes ) in wow its just in most of the game
