Is the WoW Discord official?

There is a World of Warcraft Discord and it also has been officially recognised by Discord, but is this supported by Blizzard themselves? Or it’s purely community? Who’s responsible for what happens in there?

edit I think it’s not recognised by Discord, but just an official partner.

First thing I’ve heard about it.

What counts as “official” for you?

Discord seems to be having a bad hair day at the moment, with an error message saying Google’s storage has a problem that is knocking them out in this region, or I’d look.

Just see who the Admin(s) are in the channel. Ask them whatever is important to you. But do read the infomation channels first in case whatever you want to know is already answered.

You are talking about the /r/wow Discord.

From a Discord point of view it’s “partnered”, which means that they follow certain criteria (being sfw and not allowing the usage of certain words). There are also a couple of Blizzard employees around but they don’t post, they just read.

Basically it’s like every other over-moderated big discord. It’s run by volunteers who have no knowledge / experience / training in moderating a community. The reason for its size and success is the steady supply of new users because of Reddit’s SEO-power and Discord linking it as official.

You will find a couple of power-posters receiving special treatment. Other than that, there’s a bot that contains a predefined (and sometimes very opinionated) answer for every newbie-question. If you answer a question differently, you will usually get muted.

Give it a try by yourself, though. I found absolutely no value in staying there. World of Warcraft is rarely even a discussion topic. Most of the time it’s actually a politics discord.

I ask this because I got banned. I had a strong opinion about something (and imo I wasn’t insulting anyone with it) and they decided to just ban me, no temporary mute, no temporary ban (can’t find it anymore in the serverlist), no, just a permanent ban…

Yes opinions are not allowed in there.

I mean it’s a private discord, it’s not connected to Blizzard in any way and they can moderate it the way they want. It’s just not a welcoming community at all and it’s dangerous because newbies will perceive it as a somewhat official, because of how Discord treats them.

I’d avoid it.

IMO they do more bad than good. The most active members in there are just for the off-topic and don’t actually play World of Warcraft.

Not necessarily. I was muted for things like “I actually like Sylvanas” and “I wonder what Stormwind smells like”.

It even says in the info section that it’s a reddit discord.

I am quite sure that BlizzDevs can appear in that World of WarCraft discord.

Can’t see that anymore since i’m banned :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s just weird man.
