Is there a "bad" tank class?

i wanna be able to comfortably do mythics “high mythics” and rank tanking “heroic+”. not so much rely on whats meta and worry that my overpowered tank is gonna get nerfed to the ground. any suggestions?

Things are changing every season, just play what you like.

see i really like monk and pala, monk is considered basically terrible tanks in any hard content and already main pala “ret heals” so fancied something diff

Try warrior, it’s really fun.

Not sure how bad they are or why, but I haven’t seen a single brewmaster this season. Not one.

Its just pretty difficult to play and very punishing.

Also MW is meta and WW is in a good place. Not many people play monk and the ones that do will largely be on those two specs.

Kinda annoying play style tho

That is curious. Why are Brewmasters considered bad this, season?

Generally they tend to be mediocre to decent in dungeons, while being very good to borderline broken in raids.

The only tank to my knowledge who can be considered weak are prot warriors compared to other tanks.

Community perception is what generally makes it hard for Brewmasters in pugs.

This is my personal opinion. I have been tanking this whole expansion and played every tank.

I believe 3 tanks are actually good for m+ and the other 3 are not unless they are broken OP numbers wise.
The 3 tanks are Vengence DH, Prot pal and Blood DK.

The reason why is because they have lots of interrupts and ways to group up mobs. Those thing are super important in M+ and timing the key.
Guardian druid and Brewmaster i consider on the awkward category. They have less AoE stops and some tools to group mobs, but they are limited. Guardian a bit better than Brew.
Prot warrior is the one i find the worst. They are lacking in every department and you will have to resort to old school line of sight pulls or assistance from the dps to group mobs. Utility is lacking too.

But, the new talents coming next xpac can change all this.

Atm i recommend one of the first 3 i mentioned. The other 3 are viable, but life will be harder. I would say even bear and brew are fine, you can make them work. Warrior is a real struggle without a good group.

Brewmaster is totally fine. They are also timing up to +30’s. So i do not know what content someone wants to do where they aren’t viable anymore, to me they totally are good.

Season?
All of DF and most of SL.

Brewmasters are Blood DKs with slightly more Damage but way, way, way worse selfhealing and defence.
They stuggle a lot gathering up Caster/Ranged Mobs.
They are plain dead against Healing Reduce Effects.
Stagger as a way to smooth out DMG is a Joke in DF, compared to Paladins/Warriors/Druids Armor.
Only group utility left is the bugged Ring of Peace.
0 Range Aggro

I mained Brewmaster since MoP, every time, even when they were almost unplayable (Start of WoD, where Blizzard had to buff them by almost 100%, Hellfire Citadell, all of Legion, …) in all Kinds of Content (up to World 60 Mythic Argus), but what they did in DF was too much, even for me.
I rerolled to Paladin and VDH and enjoy tanking again. My DH does Pulls i wouldnt even dream off as Monk.

Thats because dh tanks are broken and need to be nerfed for half of their utility

DH tank just too busted currently to play anything else, too much mob control, self healing and even survivability, a tank with no weakness.

I’d say Prot Paladin is almost equal to VDH, and imo all Tanks should be around Paladin Level.
You don’t need a litteral God like S2 Guardian, S1 Prot Pala/Warrior, but no Tank should struggle just surviving/gathering up Trash.

That’s true, but if you nerf VDH and Pala into the Ground (something’s not happening until MDI is over at the beginning of March … if even, big Nerfs/Buff will probably be delayed until Season 4) you have 6 Medicore Tanks.

If you wanna push as tank in my opinion you gotta have all tanks and change every season to whatever is best if you don’t have a network of people that want to play with you or you don’t wanna wait in queue for more than an hour.

There’s no tank that is bad this season but all have different utility and people will bring what’s best to make the key easier.
With the new system Blizz implemented (AKA dungeons change every season) some utility increases in value and tanks that don’t bring that utility end up having a bad time cause Blizz is incapable of balancing.

However, if you don’t care a whole lot about pushing then play what you like and have fun.

This is correct. As someone that likes tanking (and healing) i can play brew/dh/protpala/protwar/guardian no problem i just dont like bdk. I usually rotate them every season, this way i dont get bored playing same class.

I think priest is a pretty bad tank class tbh, wouldnt suggest playing that as tank.
Any tank is fine until the very very high levels, every single tank in the game is capable of doing 28/29 and probably even 30, allthough VDH and Protpala are miles ahead, no one is gonna deny that.

This week:-

All weeks:-

I’m not sure what you qualify as high mythics as everyone’s definition varies. I agree with the others that you should just play what you enjoy. A friend will frequently go for the meta tank then always end up back on his bear because that’s what he truly loves to play.

I do feel like those M+ tier lists are exagerating how bad a spec is. It isn’t a performance tierlist. It is a favorite tierlist. And sure when a tank is 2% behind others it is getting played less. But that is how specs show D-tier while they basically should be A tier. The current low tier tanks are basically only lacking utility over DH and Pala. And for the very high keys that will be important.

Like i said; the current ‘worst’ tank on the tierlist also has +30’s timed. D-tier looks too bad for me.
