Title, pretty much. Just a random thought.
Just wondering if anyone can think of a good reason why Shadow Dance should stop us from entering stealth itself? Because the way that it is right now seems unnecessarily cumbersome to me

The reason is probably for making Rogues easier to attack in PvP situations. This stall indeed very irritating in PvE.
Well I mean… I was thinking about PvP applications because thats really where im leaning to for any explicable reason. But the truth is… we can just cancel it and then go into stealth anyway so it really doesn’t change anything other than maybe losing dance being active for 1 or 2 abilities on the opener. And thats only really if you come from a fight where you really thought you needed dance, ended up either not needing it or not needing it for longer than a single GCD… going for a reset, and then going right back into action.
Its so far fetched. If you would come into that situation you would pretty much always either go for a proper reset and thus letting it fall off anyway, or you wouldn’t care to try and leave combat deliberately and get right back into the action.
From every angle I can think of, it seems unnecessarily restrictive yet deliberately put in place to work this way
Yeah it’s really weird, and it wasn’t like this before BfA (or SL, can’t remember which of the two expansions implemented this change).
I have to use this in my stealth macro and press it twice to stealth if shadow dance is up;
#showtooltip stealth
/cast [nostealth] stealth
/cancelaura [nocombat] shadow dance
(this only cancels shadow dance if I’m not in combat and actually CAN stealth)
I’m using this as a hybrid for kick and stealth:
#showtooltip [nocombat] stealth; kick
/cast [nocombat] stealth
/cast [mod:shift, @focus][@mouseover, harm, nodead][combat] kick
/cancelaura [nocombat] shadow dance
You might find a situation in PvP where you would want to kick first thing out of stealth but in PvE this serves me very well. But yeah its still a half assed solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist
Good question. I used macro too merged with the spammable stealth macro
#showtooltip Stealth
/cancelaura Shadow Dance
/cast !Stealth
This way, spamming the button ends the Shadow Dance and puts you back to stealth. (needs 2 button presses), hence the “spam button” (it doesnt cancel steelth itself however) Note that I had a separate button to pop Shadow Dance as well. You can add the nocombat syntaxes to avoid accidental Shadow Dance cancels, it was’nt a problem for me.
