Is there a way to limit the number of loaded players around us?

I have an old PC and moving even close to Valdrakken makes the game stutter, while it completely freezes if I want to get all the way to the AH. Is there a way to make my potato PC handle this like a boss? All of my settings are already set to bare minimum…

Stop everything running in background - go through everything on task manager & check you actually need it.

Have a look at what is running in background like all the Win 10 apps & stop them, thats from the old days, now we have horrendous Windows bloat.

Should fix it.

Hey, thanks for the recommendation, I did all of that a few days ago but still didn’t help.

Thats kind of hard to do when you have no idea what stuff is essential or you never heard of said program before. DF is laggy forme as well despite not havng a terribly old pc.

So its not just background stuff. This expansion is pretty laggy in general

Add more RAM [memory] and upgrade your GPU. Both are very doable on an older PC and the card and memory isn’t that expensive. Never hearth to a busy hub and get a flight close by and fly/ride manually there rather than use the dedicated flight path [ you will be hovering in space for several minutes ]. Play when its not busy and use other AH outside of Valdrakken. Just zonk in [ stutter stutter and zonk out ] Preplan your visits.

The stutter is caused by the computer using your hard drive as virtual and maybe even external drives. My guess is when you log out you can go paint a room, plough a field and watch an epic film while you wait for the drive to dump the files. Just pop up your resources meter from Ctrl Alt Del and check memory usage and drive activity.

Make sure you have plenty of space on your hard drive. Move your Warcraft folder to a drive/volume other than your main OS which is probably C drive. The drive should be a fast drive not an external USB. If there is only limited space on the drive it will be fragmented to shreads and the registry will be spending all its time finding where you have stuff stored. Also try a clean install of WoW in a large partition on a drive so its as clean a folder unfragmented as possible.

Set the Blizzard App to exit the App immediately on logging into the game. Avoid running the App whilst in game to save valuable resources.

Lastly if you don’t already, try a hard wire on your Ethernet. Probably not gonna help. And do a bandwidth test at various times of the day to check your status. You could also try playing at night and sleeping all day… joking.

In the end you need a better PC.

I run wow on an old laptop and sadly there’s nada you can do. I even have to wait 20 seconds before I enter some buildings otherwise it’s just pitch black. Auctioneers and other NPCs won’t load immediately either, so I have to stand around until they decide to pop in. I’ve got everything you could possibly have turned down, and optimized my Nvidia settings. Upgraded my broadband to the fastest in the area. I don’t even use the battle.net client just to try and squeeze some more performance out of it.
With all of this, capital cities are still a sh*t show, but it’s on me for running an 11 year old laptop lol. I’m just thankful the actual gameplay works fine.

give me a break dude, my PC is 8 years old and i run it fine… buy cheapest PC and you will be fine. nobody who can afford monthly sub is that poor

No it doesn’t run fine, Valdrakken runs like absolute garbage for everyone because the issues are on the client side. There are big slowdowns and massive frame time spikes/stuttering, which also happens when flying around the city. The baseline performance there is also like 30-50% lower than the rest of the zones because the CPU is hammered, and the severity of the drops depends on the CPU but it happens on all of them.

If it’s running fine for you then you’re not noticing or minding the issues, which is good for you but stop spending misinformation because this is on Blizzard and DF.

Blizz need to put a setting in that reduces how many players load in around you like other games have.

Never assume that it’s the RAM and GPU that needs to be replaced first. A new CPU can do wonders in wow, especially when it comes to big amounts of players lagging you out, since that is almost purely a CPU intensive task. When players lag you out it’s the CPU taking the hit, that’s why you hear some people complain about low FPS when they have RTX 4080/3080, because their CPU is bad and they wasted all their money on a new graphics card that only improved their performance by 1% (now obviously if his entire PC is a ticking time bomb from 2010 then yes he needs a whole new one i agree with that) I also know that RAM can have an effect on wow FPS, but no one should go and upgrade their RAM assuming they will get more performance out of it, unless you’re rich and you don’t care about wasting money.

Not only that, Blizzard should also add a an option to limit/disable friendly players spell cast particles in case of visibility.

In a big fight against a World boss or raid boss, half my screen is clustered in shining lights that block my vision on the ground of AoE from enemies or even enemies itself.

It feels like allies constantly throwing flashbangs.

Yes. I have 8 GB RAM and I hate new zones, where it lags. Also problem with bgs. The small ones are ok, but the ones for 40 players, I dont do them. Its impossible.

RAM is just cheaper and much easier to deal with first. I burnt out a graphics card last summer due to the heat. Interestingly I was getting strange noises in game before which vanished when I replaced the card. Cost me thirty quid and took me thirty minutes to swap out. The joy of the Win7 era.

On that RAM thing the system resources meter will identify high memory usage. I have Norton on my machine and it flags WoW regularly for high memory usage. And its always cus of the loading in of other player data. When I played Tera they moved over to 64bit and I found it unplayable till I doubled the RAM.

u underestimate my willingness to buy sub instead of food
